My intro to him was on Surfer Magazine’s ESPN show in 1987. Video montage of him surfing with Bop til you drop playing in the background. I will never forget that. Unreal.
Dude is the one of most inventive surfer who will ever live, just like Buttons , 10 years before their time. God bless brother, from a mid seventies surfer who got watch it all happen, stay safe!
In 1988 I was messing with Ollie's on shortboards. I felt the pop, it was fun. Some stupid ignorants at the lineup yelled at me and said: This ain't skateboarding.
Great surfing. Love the straight airs, creative grabs, and even the punk rock snaps. Would love to see someone in the WSL do like a monster method air or something and the watch the outrage as it only gets a 6.41.
My first board was a fletcher I bought for $75 bucks, I was just a poser, but loved that board! Long story short, it got stolen or I would of made pro! Yeah Right!
92672 The real San Clemente! CF wrote the book and paved the way for us all. The first true Aviator! Lived in San Clemente for 3 years before I move to Haleiwa Town. San Clemente was so bad ass. The Pier close out barrels, T street, the SC camp ground, San O trail 1 on a big hurricane swell empty outside reef break. Fred's Market! San Clemente is a true gift from God!
i spent a year in san clemente in ‘89 & ‘90. i was blown away by the quality of surfing. i remember watching Christian, Archibald, and Andino just on fire during a big swell at T Street. some of the most exciting surfing I’ve ever seen in person…kinda intimidating trying to paddle out with those dudes in the line up, so i just stayed out ov ghe water and watched and im glad i did. then i move up to sanra cruz and was there when mavs broke to the public and that was pretty cool, though pound for pound I think provably san clemente has the best surfers in the world…but what dini know?
CF and Archy were landing them regularly along with Santa Barbara madman Davey Smith in the mid 80's and a couple Oxnard guys like Dougal Freeman (RIP), Jeff Burke and Brian Dugas. This is like from 85 on.
@MiC-T I'm biased because I don't like Pottz. Christian was LOBBING gigantic airs in the late 80's... It was 10 years before everyone else made it routine. I've surfed with Christian at Trestles, Rocky Point, and Pipe. I also picked him up hitch hiking. One of the nicest pros you'll meet. I pick Davey Miller up, too. He's unique. He paints as well as he surfs. I have nothing nice to say about Pottz.
I used to think that interview he did with Occy saying no one on tour currently pushed air since him since he’s done virtually everything theyre doing, only he did it 3-4 decades ago. I thought he was being fucking delusional. But he’s not wrong, this video alone has him showcasing virtually/almost every air pros and top guys are doing in edits/Instagram posts/comps today (minus backflips, and 720s, and superman’s jordy did about 10 years ago) I give today’s generation credit for their athleticism to do their airs and land them almost on command and during short heats, and they do it with more polish, maybe thats what they have over Christian. But christian was able to do this on boards that were a lot less well-built for good drive and proper pop and he was literally the only one doing them and his airs still hold after 30-40 years. Tells you how good he was and how good his surfing still stacks up to modern scene filled with rich pros who been training and surfing as groms for like 6-7 hours a day off mommy and daddy’s dime working on moves christian pioneered decades before.
Any old school footage of CF is gold! One of the most important figures in surfing history. I grew up and surfed in the 90's so i know what i'm talikng about.
Those stay at home mom ads are fucking classic, all they Gotta do to sling pussy & lay on their back with that fucking built in ATM -home run dewt. Fletcher you kick fucking ass
