@@timshapleyadventures have you been to Silver Lake (just north of Slate Peak on the east side of the ridge)? It is similar, although the lake is smaller.
@@mtnlover yes I hunted Buckskin Ridge once and had a look at Silver Lake but I didn’t hike down to the water. I love that area, it was beautiful and worth the hike. I was surprised to see very high hunting pressure in there though..
@@billnova1 It wasn't far at all from where we joined the PCT. I didn't hike up it, but we could see the peak where the trail went. According to Washington Trails site it is a 3 mile round trip. The guy who wrote the review drove in and hiked from that exact spot, so you can read his review on Washington Trails of it.
@@billnova1 Washington Trails says its 3 miles roundtrip. We could see the mountain above us, but didn't hike up it. We were on the PCT a very short distance when the other trail veered off, so not far.
4:50 wow, that's some incredible footage. What kind of bear do you think that was? Was it a female/male? I thought it looked like a grizzly. maybe even a female.
To bad the American government decided to NOT raise the water levels in the lake,....DESTROYING WILD LIFE HABITATS FOR THOUSANDS OF MIGRATORY BIRDS. Buts that how socialist governments work,....care about the environment for election only.😢
Im glad you are recovering well! WE had overuse injuries and missed most of the hiking season this year. So next year will be much anticipated!@@ChristianGustafson
I should make a note, for any mouse haters out there, that mice can be a problem at the more busy sights along the lake. I had no footage to show from during the night, but mice ran over our tent several times. One finally decided to chew a hole in the mesh and drop in on us during the night. So, if mice are an issue for you, you may wish to choose one of the less visited sights along the lake to lessen the likelihood of a middle of the night invasion.
Thank you for this lovely video! Were you and your wife up there this year in May (2023)? Thinking of heading up the Chewuch River Trail next week and wondering if there are a lot of blowdowns.
yes it was late April or early May 2023. We crossed a few blowdowns, but nothing significant. We went to the Y and took the left (the right goes towards the mine): I've no idea what blow downs are like beyond where we turned around. But thankfully it doesn't seem to have been a bad winter for them in that area. Perhaps because soooo many came down the previous winter, which the trail crews cleared last summer. So should be good to go! I hope you enjoy!
This was the southern most section of Oregon. We were doing it while we had to travel to the coast of Oregon for work: that and it was the only section mostly snow free at the time (excluding newly falling snow apparently). We are actually in northern Washington, and are working on finishing PCT in this state. It just happens to work this year to knock some of Oregon off the list. Hope your hike is amazing!
thank you for this video - how wide is the bridge there right at the beginning, please? i'm traveling with a pack horse who has a bit of a wide load...
In fact the previous time we were backpacking there we met a mule pack train that was going in to pick up a trail crew that had been maintaining the PNT.
_Cool and interesting hiking adventure footage with incredible video captures, the stunning beauty and serenity of wonderful Big Beaver and Ross Lake neighborhood scenery is clearly exposed and well shown. Great to be able to watched it, thank you so much for sharing wonderful inspiration._
