Hi Julie, we are often asked the same question. We can put it down to a combination of several factors related to road conditions, other traffic and tow vehicle. There was nothing related to the van itself other than to note it was fully (water) loaded though within the 2500kgs ATM. The accident happened on a downhill curve on a bumpy stretch of the Bruce Hwy. We had just passed oncoming traffic including a large B Double - that pushed the van and setup the sway conditions. We had not understood the "Oh Jesus" button to brake the van before the car in such instances which I believe would have helped. Other aspects included running mud terrain tyres which had less rubber footprint on the bitumen, the Discovery 2 vehicle has a relatively short wheel base that requires a bit more handling to control a towed mass. We look back on this a blessing in disguise as the replacement Disco 2 was a better vehicle and the very new 'pre-loved' AOR replacement had superior options... most importantly though we both learned a lot more about towing / safety and are much better travellers for the experience. Great insurance companies and the lovely people we met during our 28 day period of rebuilding made it an easy decision to keep going... thank goodness we did - 12 month trip of a lifetime. Thanks for your interest.

Love your video guys. We have just purchased a 2017 Q+, and are looking forward to getting away, and hopefully take off long term in the next 12 months. Might see you on the road! Steve & Lisa 😊
Hi Steve, exciting times for you both. Yes I remember the anticipation for our ‘12 months escape’ so can imagine what you’ll be going through. We’re heading out on Monday for a few months outback QLD and NT. We’ve upgraded the tug from Disco 2 to a Disco 4 now. Yes might see you guys on the road. Andrew & Josephine. 👍
