Went to a Kiss concert in Oct '75 and Styx opened for them. Styx came on and I looked at my friend and said "who's the kid on stage playing guitar?" Tommy had just joined the band. I know the official records say he joined Styx in December of that year, but he was there with them in that Oct show. Great musician!!
Just amazing as always!! What a voice!!!! Love to see him play Live from his wonderful solo album which I play quite often…I have seen RTZ open for Cheap Trick now and he signed his debut album at a show for me…he is a great musician like his Dad with his own unique sound but some similarities ☺️ Always great when they do their acoustic shows together Thanks for sharing 🙌
Before he was in Cheap Trick Rick Neilson was the brains behind the Grim Reapers in Rockford, Illinois. They were the BEST. LIVE MUSIC EVERY WEEKEND. We had so many good bands that played after high school football and basketball games. Battle of the bands….it was the very best time to be a teenager.
When you were young and these bunch of (classic now) rock bands were coming out, you tend to like one than the other and think that they're in competition with each other. And now that you're older, your favorite bands are criscrossing and crossover to and play with each other and you lose count how many of them have played with one another.
Arrgh, I was finally gonna see these guys ,& ZZ top in the same show , then covid shut everything down about a week before . Then dusty Hill passed away
I know people who saw Tommy around Mishawaka with his Datsun Z. I worked for a moving company that moved his Baby Grand piano. I never saw him personally.
Really? At 2:12 Rick grips his pick with a nostril, and...I'm not kidding...flips it. Really flips it. And I didn't think I could be more impressed with Cheap Trick as a live band.
I heard Tommy getting interviewed on W.R.I.F radio in Detroit. They took questions and some women asked him how he hits the high notes still. He answered " Thong underwear 2 sizes too small" I laughed the whole night thinking of that
