@@Rockingtrabbitry if I remember correctly the largest iv had is 6, due to their size I would say 6 and under. But I have heard of litters of 10 but it’s not normal

i live in AZ and breed rex (standard) to keep my rabbits cool i fill ocean spray bottles with water then freeze them and bring the frozen bottles out to the rabbits its been 112 and i have yet to loose a bunny to heat.
I. Am. SO sorry to hear about those babies! 😭 Please consider leaving a “breezeway” in your tarp for circulation of air. Whichever way the prevailing wind blows where you are. This is extremely important when heat can’t escape upward. I’ve been saving plastic water bottles, and the ice pack method certainly helps for the price of water and refrigeration, as does a fan if you can afford to get some small battery or solar ones. I’m a dirt poor rabbit farmer myself; please don’t think I’m trying to throw shame at you for anything. Mini rex is a way tougher breed to raise than the ones I have.
@@bobjob2514 oh no your fine, I tried water bottles they didn’t really like them. The tiles are working really good especially when I put cold water on them during the worst part of the day. I got one side open on the tarp so it lets the heat out. I would do the other side but the sun would be directly on them. So I’m looking into sunshades to put up where the tree don’t cover so it will be complete shade back there. But thanks for the advice. My newzealand is doing really good compacted to the mini rexs.
@@SouthernSkiesRabbity Glad to hear it. That’s the thing about wind though: it needs two paths. Entrance and exit, or it won’t flow. Can’t wait to see those shades so you can open up the other end.
Goodness. Mini rex have such small litters! I had to look it up, and I’m astonished. My standard rex just had 7 as a late first time breeder. Apparently anything and everything affects a rabbit’s litter size, from breeding too early, late, or too middle of the road (ok, the last part was a joke). When did you first breed Daisy?
Our first time breeding her was last September. She just had another litter along with two other does. But due to the unexpected heat wave out of 11 babies I only have 3 left.
Don’t forget to vote for the rabbit breeds. I decided that dwarf wouldn’t work for us right now so for small breeds it’s holland lop vs Dutch. Larger breed is still Rex vs New Zealand.
