I can't believe I used to actually like this guy. I met him once in a Sydney rehearsal studio... I told him how much I enjoyed his short story book 'End to End'. For whatever reason?... he felt that he had to play the tough guy and put me down, by saying.. "Yeah, so what?!" I was so disappointed...I just walked away.

I've been to his talks before. They were fun until Trump got elected. Then Henry got real annoying to listen to. While he is a better person than he ever was back in the day... he's still not a very tolerant person to other people's ideals if he doesn't agree with them.
There is nothing more pathetic than a 66 year old man still wanting to dress like a 20 year old man......some how when we get our Old Man Bodies....Clothes no longer fit the same way especially the pants!...This guy is stuck in 2nd gear!........
This might be one of his best performances. His voice is just top notch, it feels so desperate and heartfelt while still nailing every note. And you can see how Mick's really carrying this song, making sure the rest of the band follows. I wish we had this audio on CD or something with better quality and not only this footage from The Road to God Knows Where.
Wonderful! Whatever you think of these guys they were not promoting war and singing truthfully about peace - the blessing for all of us! Please let's all seek peace and no more wars!
To be even a little bit surprised by Johnny rottens behavior is weird to me. That man has been the same angry loud dude since he was 18. John’s a fucking legend.
Johhny was the only one there who came across like the type of person that interested me in the genre in the first place. Not because he was drunk (honestly, he seems to act about the same even when sober) but because he seemed very real, blunt, unapologetically opinionated, unafraid, and entertaining with unique perspectives. He doesn't sound like someone kowtowing to a political agenda, being PC because his environment deems he should, or pretending to get along with/be friends with people he doesn't actually like, respect, for care about. IMO, Rollins just comes across like a pseudo-intellectual generic liberal tool with nothing original to say.
Seriously? You prefer rudeness, inebriation, physical and mental self neglect, and lazy ignorance over facts and politeness? Rotten has been a total mess since the mid 80s, and clearly lacks critical thinking skills and respect for anyone but himself and other grifters. If he had any real awareness left, he'd hate himself.
@@dmerls8571 As far as politeness goes… yes. When it comes to people like this, I prefer someone who doesn’t seem to care about being polite. I don’t tune in to hear their platitudes, generic liberal political opinions, or niceties for the sake of civility. I don’t like them giving out compliments they don’t really mean or showing respect to people they don’t actually respect. I like hearing their blunt, unfiltered feelings, as rude as they may be; they're rock stars, not news correspondents or politicians. That was the whole appeal of them in the first place. That doesn’t mean I’d prefer for Johnny Rotten to be the one saying grace at my Thanksgiving dinner or giving my grannies eulogy. If I’m choosing someone for those tasks, sure, give me Rollins and his polite, phoney-seeming tactfulness. Granted, everyone at the funeral may be a bit bewildered as to why toxic masculinity, his hatred for Trump, and racism is being brought up, but at least he’s not blowing snot out into the casket, I suppose, and telling everyone that when he knew nana she was the town bicycle. When I watch Johnny Rotten in an interview, I'm seeing what I always saw punk rock as: rebellious, outspoken, independent thinking (I have some longwinded caveats to that, but I'll refrain), and unconcerned with tact. When I see Rollins, I may as well be watching any random liberal celebrity giving the same opinions I've heard parroted a thousand times, pretending like they're the smartest person in the room when they're clearly just riding a partisan bandwagon. I don’t care which one of these guys would be a better friend to me or who I’d prefer to have over for dinner. The appeal was that they felt like they were being genuine and uncorrupted by a herd mentality. I may not always agree with Rotten, but at least I know he isn’t just saying the things and having the opinions that literally every other "countercultural" (it's hardly counter now) hipster expresses. Unlike Rollins, he doesn't feel like just another cog in that machine. And I certainly never get the impression that he’s just “playing the game” or is censoring himself to not hurt his career or reputation with his audience. For good or bad, what I see with him is what I get. And, yes, I prefer that. And I don’t know what “facts” you’re referring to. I’m interested in unique perspectives when they're delivered to me in an interesting, entertaining, or thought-provoking way, but I’m hardly looking to any of these people to get my “facts”. However, even if I was, Rollins certainly wouldn’t be high on that totem. This is the same guy who spent years taking up for The West Memphis 3 for Pete’s sake (yet another trendy celebrity bandwagon cause that wannabe advocates and activists dove into without researching).
@@nevets9811 So I take it you've never had anything good in your life, no need for civility probably means you have no children. No respect for accepted facts means you've probably never had a gainful job or owned property. Punk rock was a laugh, a joke for a short time when kids could be kids, it's not meant to be a design for life unless homelessness and drug addiction is your goal.

His wife was going through absolute hell. I'm not defending his behaviour but he was drinking so much because he knew he didnt have much time left with a woman he was with since the age of 17/18.
