Dworkin has a lot to say, but what the other guests say is minimal: this is more like a lecture given by one individual to a gallery of listeners. Burgess makes interjections which offer a counter-argument, but not enough shown. Burgess is respectful and shows empathy. Dr Clare says nothing. He's no Dick Cavett.
she was so polite and classy in spite of their in part laughable and misogynistic objections. i’d love for this spirit to return to discussions about feminism. today, the feminism is less radical but the tone is much more arrogant. it’s less of an intellectually stimulating discussion now and more of a “gotcha” fight with high emotions and often weak, rehearsed talking points from social media and not feminist theory.
As a woman who based an entire essay in high school on Larry's trials & did tons of research over the years since, the trials & movie weren't about whether u agree w por* or even glorifying it. It was about free speech & Larry's right to put out a parody or an unbelievable depiction of someone without coming under attack by the government. Simple. Not saying I agree w what he puts out. Just stating facts. And to me he didn't come off as "likeable," more like the movie simply humanized him.
