As someone who’s dealt with transfer addictions my entire life, social media has become my latest obsession and coping mechanism. I like many others would like to believe that I’m a rational actor, but the truth is there is a part of my brain that has been hijacked by the algorithms behind social media feeds. As an adult I have the responsibility to limit my use, but young people who are forming a sense of self are being hooked from an early age and the platforms are being used to manipulate and form their identity. The corporate system is not structured to properly self regulate and legislation is the only option at this point to limit use and to govern the information being presented. The question I have is how do we lobby the government to enact new regulations when corporate lobbyists with virtually unlimited resources have a vested interest in maximizing profits and sustaining continuous growth?
I'm only 22:10 in. Japanese kids use the abacus, and their computation skills are legendary after practicing for so long. The rest of the world uses calculators to do it for them and doesn't use their brain, but there isn't that negative of an effect. AI is different. It can have negative affects because it is so influential. We should use AI to increase our mental capabilities not by implanting it into our brains (and having the AI still do things for us) but by using and analyzing the AI's pattern recognition/analysis and learning from it to strengthen our own brains. I wonder if AI licenses/certificates should be a thing, like a gun license.
As an atheist I find it hard though to ignore prophecies talking about “a seven headed beast rising up from the sea” basically referring to a monstrous political power emerging from turmoil within large human crowds. But instead of a political power, I reckon the seven headed beast is a technological power fed by humanity (“the sea”)….
I think the only real answer for the common person is to opt-out. Hes correct in saying that even if you dont use the technology yourself those around you will. But when you opt out, its much easier to recognize when those around you are being influenced by the asymmetry of power since you yourself arent being directly influenced. Ive personally noticed this with my friends since ive stopped 90% of my social media usage.
AI 'knows' nothing. It is not alive. Everyone needs to wake up to the reality of what is going on. It is just advanced statistical data processing, nothing more. DO NOT BE FOOLED!
Christ is going to return in judgement and wipe the face of earth of all evil. AI will not last. In the meantime, people need to just remember that AI is not alive (it never will be), it is a detailed statistical tool that can be used to answer questions, but it should never be given the roll of decision-maker. Decisions need to be made by humans.
I would love to find someone doing the same, but designed to Indian cults... I feel that their are similar, but different. The sense of servitude and connection and respect to a Guru is so unbelievable strong, because sometimes, like any religion, there is a whole family connected to that Guru and you cannot be socially awkward to your family, you cannot embarrass them! In the west, people choose to follow a cult and we see their family members trying to rescue them, but in the case of Indian families, it's the way around! My boyfriend (Indian, 49 years old, living half of his life in the USA) has a very strange Guru. He tells people that he can bring people back to life; he has the power to do anything he wants. He is an Indian dude, going at least once a year to America on business class all the way from India, he has all the most expansive stuff you can think of, he gets his feet massaged for HOURS and hours.... his face is always of someone unhappy, angry, disgusted by his own disciples! He is getting everything off my partner. He is taking his trust, his time, his money, his mental health and his dreams away. I wish I could make him SEE what is going on, but his father is even more fanatic than him! :( The sleep deprivation is very strong there and each time he stays awaken for 4 hours, he behaves more and more fanatic! He spends days and days on less that 4 hours per night! Believe me, he is a very intelligent man, working with IT, but very little emotional intelligence I guess! :(

It is interesting to see humans worrying about their extinction. Same species that has made a total mess of this planet and has created the mass extinction of so many other species. That's what an advanced society does when it encounters a less advanced one.
Thank you for highlighting the potential dangers of AI. I find that the films and documentaries that have taught me the most are those that expose harsh truths, such as Schindler's List or perhaps short videos on social media depicting graphic footage of Gaza or the mistreatment of animals before they reach our supermarkets. While it is difficult to confront these grim realities, it is crucial to acknowledge them. Thank you for starting this conversation about AI.
What is the hidden dilemma? Many people are dying of incurable sicknesses and modern medical science is helpless of mental and chronic illnesses. AI is making it worse. AI can do everything except save people's lives. AI ChatGPT will destroy the whole world not by violence or outsmarting them but by giving people the impression that they know when they don't. They never know they are being misled. People can never know who they are internally; they can only have textbooks and limited conventional knowledge about inner human consciousness and spirituality. People become more ignorant but think they are wise. False knowledge is the worst kind; people can kill themselves, dying slowly and silently.
It doesn't matter if the technology can be weaponised or susceptible to a runaway doomsday scenario, anti-humanist governments and corporations will be the owners of the tech, not a well-educated population. Big Tech is like big Pharma: money matters, not people.
