This was a pleasure to watch. 💚 I found it very moving at the end, after all your hard work, to see the photographs of your Great Grandfather. This really was a journey through memories 'etched in time.' Thank you so much for sharing this with me. 🙏
I'm sorry, I could not watch this all the way thru. removing the rust from the tools was okay as was refinishing the metal parts of the chislel handles, but I donot agree with the idea of restoring the wood of those gorgeous planes.
I was honestly dubious when I saw the title, but when I saw the care you invested into each individual tool I know that somewhere your great-grandfather is proud of you.
Love the care take to preserve the history of these tools. I’m just starting my woodworking journey (F53) and I’m already finding that I love hand tools, especially those that have been preloved. ❤
This is what true restoration should be: tools meticulously cleaned, repaired when needed, and oiled to preserve and bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Most importantly, it’s about maintaining the history and character of these tools. Your great-grandfather is surely watching you with pride, smiling as he tells Jesus, Our Saviour, how proud he is of your work. Well done.
Fantastic work. A really sympathetic restoration. I have a large collection of woodworking tools, most of which are over a century old. As a previous commentator says the quality of new ones tools, with some notable exceptions, cannot compare with the materials and construction of their older counterparts.
Great restoration! I hope you are continuing to adjust the planes. They are able to take off thinner shavings if you fiddle with them. This has a lot of information with little narration. Thanks for doing what you do.
В раритетных инструментах есть необьяснимая прелесть. Трудно представить мастеров прошлого, и количество изделий, созданных этими инструментами. Спасибо за видео! ❤
While I don't agree with every thing you've done to these lovely tools, they're yours to do with as you will. I would however suggest you learn how to use them properly. The planes were all set way too coarsely and moulding planes and plough planes are usually started from the far end to help consistency. Good luck and enjoy!
Great video, but has anyone else mentioned yet that the captions are too small? I kept missing info because I didn't notice that there was even text on the screen.
I can tell you one thing: Don't you dare sell those of. Those are gems worth keeping and if possible using. None of tools made today can't compare with quality if tools made 100 years ago. Well done!
I learned many things. There was a similar chest in an Amish tool store. It had a few more tools like saws. They wanted $5K for it. I will use some of your methods when restoring my tools.
Would you be willing to do a video or have plans for the auger bit set and the files. The boxes are beautiful and definitely something to be proud of. Thank you for a great video.
I was gifted an old carpenter's chest similar to this one. It has a multitude of tools in it as well. Some of them are from the turn of the last century. I've dated several planes and saws to 1910 or even older. It's so humbling to know a man made his living out of this chest. I'm restoring these tools one at a time.
No se debería dejar perder la memoria de los trabajos antiguos y que todavía ejercen en muchos lugares y son el pan de las familias que lo mantienen. Lindo video!! Gracias!! 👏✌️👍
