Simple and complex at the same moment. Such a beautiful art nature provides. Pick it up, perform it, transform it. I am always surprised how much beautiy can be seen in death. I like that calm little documentary. Thank you very much and „memento mori“.
What a creative journey. I was fascinated listening and watching why and how you create your incredible iconic pieces. You are honestly connected to your work.
Have Just bought Martins book and am so excited with the prospect of uniting words in wood. Please thank him for the time that has obviously been put into publishing this book.
im so glad to see this, i saw the shorter ones , but i wanted to see more of his process, this is waht art it about a person who says something from the soul not just the mind. he does feel like a shaman
Most beautiful pottery art collection i've seen on my RU-vid travels through the pottery world online. Great thanks to Mike keller for your unique style of throwing clay pottery!!
I certainly hope he is not the last. That handful of potters you mention are my favorites… Mike Dodd, Richard Batterham, Phil Rogers, Anne Mette, Clive Bowen, etc. and Warren MacKensie
I emailed Mike last year asking if he did courses and he got back straight away 😊 But sadly and understandably didn’t have a course, but very kindly invited me to his studio. What a beautiful video thank you for that.
Thank you for this video. It is an honour to see his work and he is an inspiration of how to live, with a generous soul. So grateful to Goldmark Gallery for sharing these interviews and making my day in Canada.
Wonderful video, presentation by Dr. Justine Hopkins, and an amazing artist, man. Michael Ayrton traveled to Spain during the Spanish Civil War and tried to enlist to fight for the Republican side against the fascists but was rejected because he was underage. Ayrton was a man of great talent, sensitivity and principle.
On a more practical, less aesthetic note, Bizen mugs are excellent for drinking traditional ales. Being unglazed stoneware the clay surface helps create a very good head on the beer that stays there longer. The thick, heavier stoneware, also keeps it cooler longer.Drinking from a fine Bizen mug is also a nice way to honour and do justice to a classic ale. Stoneware was probably the original vessel for ales too, so it seems such a natural and pleasant way to serve it and drink it.
God Bless on your journey ... I don't find them too morbid - even if they are obviously cadavers and remains of lost life, they are still incredibly interesting, and you make them sing ... I find all of nature fascinating - and death is not a downer at all for those of us with faith and assurance in our immortality - quite the reverse! Thanks, Goldmark - for all you do.
Thank you Mike Dodd. You have inspired me to think deeply about my own life and my own work. Since that one day I stumbled on you, I have always reflected on how beautiful your art is. I love your stories on how you grew to being a great potter and human. I felt your compassion relating to how we should respect to all life and becoming a vegetarian. I became vegan in 2012. It meant so much to me to hear you express what it means. I loved your stories about your daughter and other great potters you’ve had the pleasure to meet. I have been making my own pottery since 1997, as a non traditional student here in South Texas, and a single father. Although I thought I was going to study in some other major, I kept finding a love in the arts. Unfortunately, I have been struggling to win my battle with cancer, I could never regret my love and choice in pottery. I wish I could travel back in time and found this love sooner in life, I am so grateful to have found your passion, inspiration and love of sharing with the world, the great Mike Dodd. Be well, vegan and passionate always. ~ Marko Vegano Madrazo Congratulations on your life achievements ❤
A wonderful tribute to Mike and his dedication to making pots as well as living a life of observation of the tiniest details. His work is an honour to see. Grateful to all of you at Goldmark Gallery for opening your doors to the world, from a delighted viewer in the Canadian Rockies.
A lovely, loving documentary of a lovely man and his lovely pots. The individual narrating the walk-through was spectacular, and really got to the essence of Mike, his philosophies of making art, pottery, and our relationships to the world. Very enjoyable. Thank you!
Wish I could see these pots and meet you all in person. Who is carrying on this tradition of making pots this way? Momentum kick wheel, local materials, mark making, and his forms… the shapes of his pots are just right. Thank you for the walk around.
