Title: Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Director: Patricia Rozema Distributor: Picturehouse Genre: Family and Kids MPAA rating: G USCCB: n/a it's an average of 3 stars out of 5 Personal Rating: 3.5 Primary audience: children 5 and up Year of release: 2008 Screen Shot 2023-10-05 at 7.10.36 PM.png This movie focuses on an American girl character who lives in Cincinnati, OH during the Great Depression. This is set in 1934, Kit is 10 years old and is an aspiring reporter. As her family struggles to keep their house from being foreclosed her father takes a job in Chicago as her mom opens her house to an odd group of boarders. In the film, there has been quite an issue with robberies allegedly committed by hobos. This sparks Kit's interest in writing a report on it to see if it's true or false. She becomes acquainted with Will and Countee who live near the hobo jungle. As conflict arises, she keeps her determination to clear Will's accusation and becomes a local hero. Her father returns and her paper is released in the major daily newspaper. The first media key is balance, which can be seen in the film as Kit begins to reason about her and her family's hardships. As seen in the beginning she is not fond of her father leaving and being moved to the attic because they have to host boarders. As the movie progresses, she grows to be fond of them. She begins to get closer to the group of boarders. She continues to be kind to her father and grows an understanding of why he got the job in Illinois. The second media key is attitude awareness, I believe her resilience in finding out what was right and standing up for Will is an example of this media key. She discerned into showing that Will is innocent of the crime, though she's going against what others believe. The third key is the dignity of the human person, this can be seen in the mother of Kit. In the beginning scenes, Will and Countee approach Kit and her friends, they share they work for food. As they approach Kit's house, Kit's mother and her friends are having a gathering. All her friends tell her to tell the two to leave and that she shouldn't feed them. Her mother gives food to them although they initially refuse due to no work for them is needed. She then told her friends that they were someone's children. The mother was able to see the two homeless as equals and thought they were worth being taken care of. The fourth media key is truth-filled, Kit went out of her way to stand up against adults for her friend's innocence. She looked at the good of the people and only wanted to punish the ones who committed the crime. She was resilient in doing what was right. The fifth key is inspiring, this is seen in the film because Kit had hope in proving Will's innocence. Moreover, she hoped that one day her report would be published in the daily newspaper. Her resilience and determination are inspiring for children. Her story motivates the intended audience so that they are able to achieve their goals. The sixth key is skillfully developed which is seen in this film by Kit advocating for the truth and kindness towards others especially in hardships such as the great depression. She believed that in time her family would be brought together one day. Her family was charitable to the homeless, especially Will and Countee. The seventh key is motivated by and relevant to experience which is seen throughout the film. The mother portrayed the virtue of charity by feeding the two homeless kids sympathizing for them as they are someone's children. Kit is as charitable as her mother as she aids in finding the one who has been responsible for the various crimes that were committed in her town. This is then seen as an example of charitable acts and treating people equally. This promotes acts of kindness towards all and pushes the idea of resilience.
The line "That was the second most disgusting fluid I've ever had in my eye!" has lived rent free in my head since this fucking movie came out and I quote it whenever I get something in my eyes - much to the confused looks of those around me haha
I've watched this movie a thousand times and every time I got chills! It's the most well deserved Oscar ever given!Edith Piaf is the best French singer and Marion is the best French actress!🇫🇷💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This HAS to be one of THE most underrated teen angst comedies EVER... It is SUPERB... and the soundtrack is EXCEPTIONALLY good... (straight outa student radio at the time... KAPAI Contact 89FM!) - Every aspect of this CLASSIC movie is a love letter to student life as an undergrad in the mid-80's... A halcyon time - and existence - here in little ole NZ... Kia KAHA and keep well, y'all... ✊😉👍
I tried to keep a lookout for James corden the whole movie and was wondering why I didn’t see him, then I clocked he was tone 💀 whos literally in the start of the movie
This is like finding an old dusty notebook up in the attic that you wrote when you were a pissed teenager. You can sort of recognise the gist of what you were getting at, yet its given way to age and is now barely legible or acceptable. The video quality here makes me wonder if the kaleidoscope was preferable to the telescope in 2008? Were we living in a water colour daydream?
