Cracked heads were sort of common on those in certain later model years. After 2000? I think you can tell which head they have by cast-in numbers which are visible at the rear of the head, under the cover back by the firewall. Look straight down from above onto the deck. I can't remember the numbers to stay away from, but the good heads are getting hard to get anymore. I had a 96 for 8 trouble free years. Haven't learned my lesson, and now have a 95 Grand Cherokee Laredo.
Yeah the early99-2002.5 had the 0331 head had casting flaws. The later heads have the word "tupy" cast into it and had that flaw fixed. Atleast that's what my research has found. I couldn't find a tupy head local that wasn't going to need machine work so I just bought a whole head from clearwater cylinder head. Thanks for watching!
@@onehourgarage I was looking to do a clearwater or the later model TUPY head swap on mine, the price difference is just a lot different between the two
@raleighsmith9838 yeah I couldn't find a tuppy head that didn't have a ton of miles or that was close. I would have had to have had it checked and rebuilt anyway and driven a couple hours to get one. It was alot more than i would typically spend but I think I'm going to keep this one for a while.
@onehourgarage okay thanks I'll look it up , we had an ls in our car but we put the 302 back in it we did manage to pull 9 second quarter mile passes out of the 302 with a stock bottom end and I ported my e7 heads duel plane intake and an off the shelf Anderson cam and that's also with a 5 speed transmission you can see it run on my son's channel adam grover with the green gangster, I appreciate you taking the time to comment back to me I subbed
@terrygrover6440 thanks! I'll look it up. The old 302 ford is a great motor for sure, I had a 88 gt way back in the late 90s the was maybe a low13 high 12 sec car with very little done to it. I've been a best of a 10.54 @ 127. I'm still learning tuning on the terminatorx.
@onehourgarage keep hammering at it does take time to work all the bugs out it doesn't happen overnight and your in the 10s that's already a good thing
Your car looks like our car the green gangster which is also on RU-vid, i was wondering what motor your running in the car if you don't mind me asking, i enjoyed watching your car run thanks for sharing
yes, it's almost done but didn't film much of it because it's been so long since I've been in an auto I needed to concentrate and if I made mistakes I didn't want anyone using it as an example..lol
@@onehourgarage I learned how to use precision tools in the industrial workforce. Recently I taught myself how to rebuild 2 stroke outboard motors. I do all the boring and honing myself. Man I would love to get some experience with rebuilding transmissions. I wish you luck with your rebuild. Do a video on the results please
I’m just fixing to do this exact same thing. Any suggestions or tips that you learned from this? Or something you would have done differently? Thanks!!
@@onehourgarage Beautiful country! The only problem winter comes early up your way. Summer/Fall is the best time of the year. Lake Champlain is a great place. My wife and I have always enjoyed our time up there!
