Who are we? Well, we’re your neighbors (some of you probably literally). We are those people that you know live down the street but rarely see on the weekends. Mostly, we are day-hikers, hopping on the road by 8am, going on a hike, and returning in the mid- to late-afternoon. Every now and again, mostly during the summer, we camp too.

Forewarning, if you’re looking for backpacking or rock climbing blogs, you’ve hit the wrong site. We marvel at those types of adventurers, but we aren’t quite them.
Welcome to Hikes from Home

Achingly beautiful... the whole drainage that Jawbone Flats sat in burned up in the 2020 Beachie fire. Those bridges, rusted old cars, and most of the cabins. But there are currently people putting the bridges back in, gaining access to the incredible off-grid town to begin cleaning up & rebuilding. The trail is still achingly beautiful, but in a new way. Towering burnt monoliths shade the lush green understory. It literally inspires awe. The moss is gone, true, but the creek is a brilliant blue like never before. Change isn't always bad :)

Backstory on HFH: we started this channel after we challenged ourselves to do a different hike every month for a year. This was packaged to me as a birthday gift every year with 12-14 different hikes pre-selected to make deciding each month easier. Similar to a lot of folks, we were always curious what to expect from a new hike that you don't really get from an All-trails review. So we started to record some video and share them to folks asking for recommendations. Our lives have changed a bit the last few years where, if we get out for a hike, we're enjoying the experience and not trying to worry about getting enough content for a video. I love this comment (and all of the other comments from the past few years I'm just now seeing) and we'll see what we can do about taking the community along for a few hikes this summer :)

That trail goes 3x that distance and there are parts further up that are more breathtaking.

Absolutely. It was a little on the muddy side when we were there (pretty common for this trail, even in the summer) but there is a lot to like about this hike

Why didnt you go past the upper sandy guard station?
@HikesfromHome
@HikesfromHome 2 месяца назад
I've been doing this hike for decades (this was a staple hike for my family that we did a couple of times a year) and only recently learned about the Upper Sandy Guard Station. We'll have to head back and make a video on that part of the trail!

I've seen mountain bikes on the trail before. Horses are very common to encounter on the trail as well.

How do you make the hyper lapses of walking through the trails? So nice!
@HikesfromHome
@HikesfromHome 2 месяца назад
It took a lot of experimenting, but we are using a Go-Pro Hero on their Karma gimbal stabilizer. It mounts up to our backpack using a peak design clip for easy hands-free operation. It still requires a little bit of post-production work to trim out the breaks and add a bit more stablization so its actually consumable but that's been the best combination we have found after trying a few different options

We lucked out and there was a hot dry spell in early August that made for a great hike. This hike does start at about 4,000ft elevation so you should check the weather in Fall and Spring before heading out.

Maybe with a mountain bike. There is a service road you follow most of the way to get out to the lighthouse, but there are frequently down trees and it can be a bit muddy
