Didn't realize Katsaris is literally one of the greatest pianists ever. The clarity of all the voices and the absurd amount of notes he adds are hard to fathom.
hot jam! once the solo parts in the finale start 51:20 this is my favrotie part of the song... hearing it on piano....Only Liszt would be like, "yeah.. it could be done......(yawn)" The performer after 50 minutes of playing: "bruh.... what's happening to the rhythm here?!?!?!?!
The guy that created the original and the guy that transcribed it for piano AND the guy that recorded this ALL MET IN A GARAGE IN THE BAY AREA IN 1983!
Thank you for this. I'm in the bad habit of watching too many videos on RU-vid that make me cross, not enough, like this, that delight. I was really pleased that I remember sufficient of my musical education decades ago to follow the score. I was pleased that I could understand quite a lot of the Italian and the passage in Autumn called "ubriaco" and "ubriaco che dorme" - drunk and sleeping drunk made me laugh (I like the odd glass of beer myself). Most of all, as this music is played so often, it's easy to forget how special it is. How exciting are some of the fast passages and how lovely some of the slow ones. My favourite is the slow movement in winter and I didn't know that he described this section as being as though beside the fire while outside it rained.
The piano doesn't match up completely correct to the piano piece being played. Some of it and the count is off In certain areas along with a plethora of other things. But it very beautiful, I'm glad it was played this way. I guess the pianist got caught in the moment.
