I know nothing of white water, but "Down the Great Unknown" by Dolnick brought me here. I had to see Satan's Gut-- absolute disorder. It''s amazing the fortitude some folks are blessed with. Much respect. Im assuming Powell portaged or lined this one--i would find near death even with both arms.
Great video, Joe. It just makes me want to score another permit. And this time I will use a camera mast that will survive the trip, you know, so I can have my own footage of a nice line in Lava. Thanks for posting.
The flow of emotion, the movement of water, the love spilling out of the moment, nothing is lost as the earth echoes our lives into time. Sharing this with those who know the place is as wonderful a gift as anyone could hope for when so far away from its magic.
This is the first I've heard this music and I love how it fits the pace of the video... or vice versa... and the words! LOL! yes, going back to the Colorado in a couple of weeks and you betcha... we'll be rowing! :)
According to Souther Paiute belief this is the place where the spirits of the departed go to access the door to the "other place" . This happen about a year after death has taken them. They hang around with the living for that year and then go down Deer Creek to these narrows and pass over.
HOKA HEY! Thanks for everything, Joe et al. Tara and I had an absolute blast! REALLY BIG THANKS for going out of your way to cook the alternative meals for Tara and me. There's a chance we'll see you at the bluegrass festival this weekend... I love the song--never heard it before.
