I don’t know why, but I feel like something is off from the score when it’s usually in a half key lower than the OBCR. But of course, that’s just me, plus, the performance itself makes up for it.
Love Legally Blonde but so glad i didn't see Sheridan as Elle. Her vocals are meh, accent inconsistent and she just looks wrong. Actresses often play much younger characters but she looks in her 40s here and rather cheap looking which doesn’t suit the role.
How cute is she!!! She reminds me of Karen in Mean Girls, she has that dumb blonde vibe, but she still sounds smart and witty. 2:04 is where she shines best. She reminds me of Bailey in a less annoying earwormy way.
Idk why but, even Sheridan does the spin on “cool ironic twist.” LBB and her understudy and Lauren and many other Elle’s do it but why doesn’t Bailey spin on “cool ironic twist.” Not that big of a deal but it kinda always bugged me that on the tv show they were like “She’s the best dancer.” But she didn’t do that choreography.
Thanks so much for putting this up. This was always a good number and good first-act finale, but SS is thrilling here. Just found this a month or two ago and will be watching it again and again.
I see a lot of people saying not to compare people. But as a standalone performance, not comparing to anyone else, it's okay but not amazing. If I paid money to see this live I wouldn't be disappointed but I wouldn't be completely blown away either. She doesn't hold her notes long enough and could use some better dynamics, but she got through the number (which is an accomplishment in its own right, this song is a beast) and has really wonderful tone. Definitely could use improvement but is still pretty good. 7.5/10 at least.
Love her. The attitude, the look, the voice, the little spins. Saw her perform at The Savoy way back when. Never mind all this ‘she isn’t trained’ or ‘she’s not like so and so’. In musical theatre you either have it or you don’t and Sheridan HAS IT x
I saw Sheridan as Elle first, I saw LBB afterwards - and to me, in my personal opinion, Sheridan IS THE Elle Woods. I much prefer her portrayal to LBB. To me LBB was overacting and forcing it, whereas I think Sheridan is a much better fit, naturally funny, sassy and just effortless in the role. I think Sheridan is one of the best West End actresses there has ever been, I guess that's why she's won several Olivier Awards. She'll always be my Elle.
She might not have the energy of LBB, but she sure has more attitude, more fierceness to her portrayal, and that makes her portrayal of Elle Woods an equally intriguing version.
She is VERY MEDIOCRE. Any one who did a thumbs up here must be either deaf or know NOTHING about how to sing properly. Firstly it’s been remastered to the hilt. So obvious that she can’t sing live because we’ve seen and heard her hashed , over reverbed (trying to hide the many imperfections ) live performances before. I can’t bear to listen to her. So tired at having her shoved at us at every opportunity. The only thing that she has that is exceptional is her deaf and blind manager/promoter because he or she has worked miracles in getting her noticed. Nearly everyone in the business think she’s an utter joke. A nasty wannabe diva-ish child hating cow. I hope she stays on maternity leave forever. That way she will at least try to learn to love her child and we won’t have to listen to her schoolgirl throaty shiat. If this is the best British TV can find, then we absolutely deserve to be laughed at by The USA. Ridiculous. I’ve heard Schoolkids sing better than her.
I love Sheridan Smith. She's great. And kinda the Audra McDonald of the West end. Anyone saying she's terrible needs to go to hell. She's had a phenomenal career.
woah these comments are so negative! laura was obviously incredible, but sheridan is just so likable to me, and i think she hides her accent pretty good on top of all the singing and acting and choreo 💛
One thing I’ll give Sheridan that LBB didn’t do, is hold that entire 10 second note at the end. Any time I watched LBB she always took a breath halfway through. That final big belt from Sheridan sold it for me
