Just a little coke was involved in this. I thought it was going to turn into a jazzersize show. I never got a chance to see them live and once I'm done with making my time machine I can go back do that :)
I was at the show in Providence, RI the night before this show. Although I'm a DLR guy (saw them on the 1984 tour), it was still a great show... and to see Eddie twice in my life was a blessing!! R.I.P.!!
1:13:11, ... I'm AMAZED Eddie's Floyd Rose Tremolo didn't throw everything out of tune on his guitar with that broken string.... Mine from this era did,... DAMMIT!!!, .. lol... ... *: )*
The sequence Ed plays at 1:07 - that’s some of the most inventive tapping sounds , even for him! It’s my understanding that everything was in a “rushed” context at this time : the album did t even come out before the first few dates of this tour , so it was bite the bullet , all systems go , damn the torpedos! (you get the drift😂) . So , it seems this performance reflects that : high energy, rocking out ! I think they did well with/Sammy : he is who he is and it is what it is. Really, no other singer could’ve filled this spot but SH . I say that because there actually was a connection btw original VH and SH when he was w/Montrose : both bands played a few festivals together, and Ed had claimed in interviews that he really liked Montrose’s debut album very much - and it IS a great mid 70’s Rock album , no doubt. So, in a way , this was the only way it (Van Halen) was gonna work.
I didn't get to see Van Halen on this tour, but I certainly wore out the VHS tape I had of this show! I still get goosebumps watching Eddie's solo, and also really still enjoy watching Alex's drum solo! He was vastly underrated amongst rock drummers.
Other then Anthony the only thing that sucks is do you see that white stick Ed's smoking on damn I hate them things wish like hell Eddie would have too, he'd be here today R-I-P Brother!!!!
For realz...........in later yearz he totally tried to be like 50cent and in recent years he acts like Vince neil. Your M@m and I talk about it all the time in between "jobs she performs" and even she thinks that Hagar was totally trying to be like Kip winger. As a reminder she wants you to keep your room clean. NO reason for all the porn mags and dirty clothes while you live at home. Your sister has no issues keeping her room clean so men can come over. If you kept your room clean you would be beatin men off with both hands like her.
‘One Way to Rock’ was infinitely improved here. It shows how limp and under-written it was originally, but when played with that incomparable EVH tone, it actually rocks.
I happen to believe the guitar solo on this show is one of his best solos ever. On this tour, I actually caught a pic from Eddie Van Halen. I had second row right in front of him. Great memory.
I saw them on this tour in Toronto. 42,000 people. Was amazing. This was Ed at his peak. Saw them again on Canada Day at Molson Park in 1993. I barely remember the show as I was totally drunk. So, that was a wasted day in every sense. But I was young and ready to party. All I remember is Jump was the first encore song so I must have been sobering up. Ed is the king.
What more can be said about Edwards Guitar playing nothing I can add that others haven't said, that aside Edward Van Halen was one of the coolest people I have ever seen, he never seemed to pose and act his part like Roth would, Ed just was Ed he always dressed cool even how he smoked his cigarettes, which was his down fall , but the pre 2007-08 Ed was the coolest guy, and the post rehab Eddie was that same guy , I luckily saw him one last time in concert in 2015, so glad I did. He is one of the greatest guitarists and icons of the late 20th century and early 21st century . RIP Ed you are so missed !
Also had this on VHS. It’s scary hearing the intro and Al Michaels and how it takes you back. I was 12 when this came out. I’ll be 45 in a couple of months. It’s crazy! :)
