my first pond was part of an addition of a aquaponics system for my poutdoor garden. Biggest issue i had was my kids trying to catch my fish and racoons being racoons.
I got 6 cuttings from Etsy two weeks ago and just shoved them into a pot that I only use for cuttings. They have rooted nicely and all have lots of leaves already time to transplant now. These things grow quickly 💜 happy growing 💜
I had a similar setup in my garage for a few years….. I would get a couple of the large food grade barrels and make one big filter and have all your tanks connected that way….. then all your water is more stable and easier to do maintenance as you grow.😎 I got up to a couple thousand gallons of fish at one point. I used a sump pump and gravity feed for everything except for the sump which was in the 55 gallon barrels… one full of mesh bags full of several filter materials like you are doing and then the other barrel was basically just for the sump and I had massive air bubbling going on above the sumps level so my water stayed really healthy without too much work…. I had tilapia, local caught small channel cats, bass, bluegill and sunfish…. Oh and the fish that I started with were cichlids of all different varieties. Once people find out you are into aquatic stuff, everyone and their neighbor has fish tanks to give you😂
That’s kinda a good idea but I’d advise against having multiple tanks on the same filtration system as if there is a water quality issue, or a sickness in your fish, then then entire system is affected. Ofc this also makes treating whatever it is easier depending on whether or not you have to break down your filters to do so.
Great job. Very nice ingenuity. Not sure where you are in your journey, but I think your current trash can filter IS large enough. Being able to switch over to more natural filter options and less man made media, your system will perform significantly better. I think it’s perfect, just perfect your media and find a good long term tank option. Thumbs up.
So long as there is a least some pressure to push water through your pipes it should work. All the valve does is open and close based upon the water level in the fish pond. Once the water level drops and the valve opens if you have at least some pressure it should flow until the water level rises high enough to close the valve again
Huh... That's the exact opposite of how I make cuttings. I cut the bottom flat and the top at an angle. The angle is to keep water from sitting on it and causing "Whatever", I think people think the angle is to make it easier to stick in the dirt... Which, of course, it does, so logic does apply to some extent. 🤠👍 Time to harvest some 🌿Katuk!
Thank you so much for the video!!! Instead of tilapia, can you raise rainbow trout? Also, I saw a series of tanks once where they were all linked by pvc pike and water flowed around through all of them. Water circulation.
I just finished this job exactly as explained and i was successful! AWESOME video and thanks for allowing heat again (im from Minnesota). That said I wanted to shed some light on some things that may provide additional insights .... - make sure you solder using a fine point tip...mine was about 1mm. Not alot of space between the 3 wires. - i was able to separate the wires like the author but make sure you hold the ribbon with a pair of needle nose pliers while you gently strip off the ends,. If you omit this you could pull out the wires on the circuit board end 😮 - if i had to do this again, i would have desoldered both ends of the wire ( including the circuit board end) and replace the ribbon with Three longer wires 3" to provide More slack. If you use the resuse the existing ribbon there is little to no slack in the wires after reinstalling. - i used "desoldering wick" to remove the solder - more forgiving to use if you're a dummy like me 😢..i found this stuff st my local 'micro center ' computer store - finally, this whole problem is caused by a lose nutt that holds the switch....it allows the switch (and the soldered ends) to cant left and right... causing them to break .. make sure to keep it screwed tight!! It is accessible by pulling off the center knob.. while you are at it, do the same to the right knob as this has a similar layout.
Quick question: every time it stops the water after refilling do you have to twist the valve again and reset the system or does it keep working over and over again without you tinkering with it
I love that you have a list of topics! I love that you kept on topic, and not a lot of "filler words" Overall a great job! One thing - I'm new to everything, so checking something "Regularly" is not clear to me approx what time frame. 3 days, a week, or how often ? Not trying to make trouble. Really like this video.
Your stilling well going all the way down channels the water more cause the water flow to remain higher than needed for proper settling. One bucket should do :)
You buy the containers, you buy the pumps, you buy food, you buy water, you use electricity, you buy the baby fish...does that actually add up?? I also had to put up nets because the herons would steal all the fish in a short time. And ultimately you have 150 fish ready for slaughter... you also need a freezer. so I don't know??
@@jeffreyblock16 Exactly...the chicken seller and the food seller made a profit...and you became a loser. You can't even go on vacation for 2 days because you have to provide food and water...and then there are the foxes and the birds of prey. .. no thanks !!!
If you’re worried about burning, why not make it into a tea? That way you can apply directly to the base of the plant? Granted you will probably have to do it more often, but if you have an irrigation system, you can distribute it that way as well. Just saying.
Check out Owens EPIC Aquaponics on RU-vid. He's doing what you're doing but he added a bunch of flood and drain beds after the original solids filter. That solved the problem of the finishing the filtering process. And he gets veggies & fruit from it. He has some things that could help you improve your system.
Ini untuk persendirian guyezzzz, jika untuk kolam Yang besar kena dirikan kolam berhampiran sungai/air untuk gunakan air tersebut supaya air sentiasa mengalir bertukar mengelak bau Dan ikan² sentiasa Segar Dan sihat serta jimatkan kos air kerana menggunakan air sungai sumber alam 👍🥳🎉talapia Dan Keli sedap guyezzzz, goreng pon sodap
Why do we live in a world where we watch videos from people who don’t know shit! I didn’t know I needed to cycle the tank before getting fish he says…. So he started out with no research…. Great. You think a person like that will somehow become an expert is a little time….? NO. His system still is fucked up and I’m sure he worked to make it look right for this video.
