I've been watching this for a decade and dreaming. I finally drove the pass recently! My wife was very confused as i was excitedly commentating "this is where he passed the 5 series!!" etc 😂
The intake sounds are amazing, but what really gets me every time is the dark brown engine sound when revving it up from very low rpm's. At exactly 2:51 when the overtaking of the Suzuki starts, the straight six puts on it's Barry White voice and sings "doobedoobedoobedoooo...." Just listen to it with headphones....breathtaking....!
I used to watch this video all the time, used to help me dream about having my own E46 M3 and then 6.5 years ago I got one. Doesn't compare to the CSL but thank you for helping me imagine my goals.
Just imagine, that the cars would be like today, if they were built to the best of our abilities and not according to pretentious rules, which don't even work in real life. That CSL is a real treat!
Gosh - this maskes me dizzy just watching the video, I might not have survived sitting in the car.. The 34 teslas who moved up the Tremola (also in Switzerland) did it a more leisure pace and definitely less engine noise. See: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TVbRxuutnhc.html
My tribute to this car, road and driver done in a 140i. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-29za44x81do.html. With that long pull uphill from the rest area included 😊
I’ve created my own homage to this high revving section of the clip in a BMW 140i...... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-29za44x81do.html
I keep coming back to this video and the one up Col de la Bonette time and time again. It's just the combination: the metallic roar of the straight 6, the serpentine road, the scenery. What's not to love?
The S54 is, along with the M88 and the TVR Speed Six, one of the greatest high-revving straight-sixes ever made. The sheer rawness and the way it barks when you dig into the throttle... it's like a Gibson ES-335 playing through a big Marshall stack, the attack of the valves when you pick harder... such a raw, textural, gritty, angry noise!
hello, when you was driving col de bonette: i just wanted to ask what you are thinking about the trip from geneva to nizza. are the streets good enough for cars everywhere? i ask because i will drive this route this summer... thx for your answer :) your CSL is awesome!
