The thing crunchyroll really needs to do the give dbz the proper release is rerelease the dragon boxes on sd bd, or try to find out which country actually has good film masters of dbz and outsource those, if they exist.
Well, whatever the sources were for the Level Sets looked pretty pristine. I was in for the long haul with those, then they dropped them after two volumes. Sigh.
Yeah Im totally with you on that. The biggest problem I have wiith this release is the fact that funimation made it sound like they were going to put the level of work into this set as they did those level bd's.
I think a lot of it does have to do with toei, I remember reading a article in which it was said that due to the fact that dbz came over in the tail end of the 90's that the masters funimation and pioneer recieved was 3rd generation 16mm masters. Because of that the image quality is pretty rough. So in all honesty they would probably have to use dnr, however, theis is no excuse for the terrible color grading and cropping.
I agree with everything you said in the video and was spot on and logical. But after you said this at 17:26, why didn’t you upgrade to 4K? Blu ray is still an excellent format and I still collect them (rarely), but you’re really missing out on a lot if I’m being really honest with you.
Why do you assume I haven't? I waited a while because of lack of funds. I couldn't afford to get a new TV, new player and pay a premium on new titles. I've barely bought anything the past couple of years, so I went mainly with Blu-ray because it was cheaper and was what I could afford. It's been a rough few years, I'm not made of money. Now things are better, I have a PS5, a 4K TV and if a title is on 4K,. I get the 4K. Because NOW I can afford it. So not missing out on anything anymore. And honestly unless you've got a MASSIVE screen or projector I'm not seeing that big a difference on my 55" screen. I'm mainly buying them for the day when I DO get a massive screen and/or projector. VHS to DVD and DVD to Blu-ray were massive leaps forward in quality. 4K, not so much. But it is quite nice, I like the black cases, and look forward to the day I have a screen massive enough to truly appreciate the difference. Which should be in the next few months.
@@zaranyzerak I didn’t assume anything. I always watched your channel before and that’s what I used to know. It’s been a while I’ve been checking out your channel, I guess that’s why I didn’t know you upgraded and I’m glad you did. And yes, the bigger screens do make a difference in picture quality. But a 55 inch screen does have better traits compared to larger screens. It keeps the pixels more dense and gives you a sharper picture. But, with a larger screen in my opinion, shows off the HDR better.
ya, your right "The Unholy Alliance" its called. No background score after title at all and i've got mkv files Not from dvd directly, but i downloaded mkv so i assume someone ripped the originals. Now you got me hunting.. But its not too bad, its only one episode. But still would be good to have all complete music. Accidents happen.
They re-released the first half of Season 1 a while back and it had the corrected version of that episode with the full score. I kept both, as the "incomplete" version is an interesting curiousity.
Lets get this sorted... PAL is a TV standard.. DVD is a Region Standard. You can't mix the two. but you said "region 2 is pal" Without assuming people use a multi-region player, or code free player, your basically assuming in Australia i can play Region 2 DVD's by default
Not sure how that was confusing, but okay. I completely understand all of that as I've been working with video since the 80s. Apologies if I didn't explain it adequately in this particular video from a decade ago, I thought I was pretty clear on the distinction between Region coding and video standards. I'm usually quite specific about that sort of thing because they are often confused or misunderstood. Such as when people see a DVD is Region Free they automatically assume it will work in their player no matter what, but nope - not if it's a PAL DVD you're trying to play in an NTSC player or vice-versa. Needs to be your video standard AND region coding (or region free and your video standard) if it's going to work. I discuss the differences and distinction between them quite frequently in my content and make a sincere effort to be clear on the differences.

I think the low budget aspect of this serial is an indirect trademark of the studio that made it (Columbia Pictures). This is the same studio that churned out nearly 200 Three Stooges shorts from 1934 to 1959. The serial looks like it had roughly the same budget as the Stooge films of the time. And, every Three Stooges fan seeing this knows that the racial slurs against the Japanese weren't restricted to the Batman serial ("The Yoke's On Me" and "No Dough, Boys" are just two examples of Stooge-related anti-Japanese propaganda films). I watched this serial on DVD just a few years ago, and I thought it was pretty good given the context of the times and the 'thriftiness' of Columbia Pictures.

Saw the original, thank goodness... That stupid "he's in a coma..." and everyone it bawling, that pissed me off The one when scarlet said "he's dead..." That the original , then crying made sense It hit hard a kid but any kid understood that heroes die... Critics where like "we can't have kids see both Optimus Prime and Duke die in the same year..."
Have you checked if they made an audio description for those Blu-ray? I am blind since birth and I read it. Want to enjoy this animated series. But besides being blind, I’m French so if I want to watch it with someone, it would have to be in French because I can’t concentrate on the dialogues in English and my friend who describes me in French. and even if the French dub has an incredible casting, I don’t want to miss Kévin Conroy and Mark Hamill
Audio is English, French and Spanish. Just regular audio tracks, no descriptive ones. Sub-titles are English SDH and French for the series, the two movies are English audio and sub-titles only.
There's an unintentional, slight DC Comics connection with Bates Motel. Bud Cort and Lori Petty, who starred as the film's central characters, would go on to play Toyman and Livewire in the Superman Animated Series in the 1990s. In other words, this is a tale about Toyman and Livewire taking over and managing the Bates Motel.

I was soooooo excited about this movie but it felt like something was missing and off besides the uniforms from the comics during that time i was just happy they made a x-men movie but always thought they shouldve shown how the team was put together and the movie was short as hell and it was alil too serious then seeing the interviews and behind the scenes when that idiot bryan singer said he wasnt really a fan and he wanted this to be a realistic emotional movie......then im like this is a fuckin movie about super heros 🖕 this realistic bs give us action packed x-men movie🤦♂️ they screwed up Rogue i luv Anna Pacquin but Rogue we know was strong and a fighter🤦♂️ it was just off.......keep bryan singer away from these movies please 😒 and i feel the same wel worst 24 yrs later.......cant wait for Wolverine and Deadpool 💯
I am a bit confused. The series went for 65 Episodes, Volume 1 has 33, volume 2 has 20, and then there's the movie. Are the episodes on the "Best of" different from the ones on the volumes? I am missing the math.
Volume 2 of the Mill Creek sets had 20, as did Volume 1. They also did a complete series set of all 65 episodes. That's a different collection than the BCI Eclipse sets. Volume 1 of the BCI set has 33, Volume 2 has 32. Look at the description, it breaks down all of them.
It was also very much a conscious effort on Singer's part and the likes, to add in little touches in the first film. Specifically speaking to Jean. The machine Magneto uses affects humans turning them into Mutants. But at the time, they think it has no real affects on mutants. In the last scene at the statue of Liberty, you can see Jean look over like something has affected her and it awakened something. It's small and easy to miss, but it's there. Took me years and years to find that out and notice it. So going forward, it makes sense as to why in the 2nd movie, she's progressing in power alone. Rogue's hair turned white because of the machine as well. So it can be attributed to said machine. Even in a deleted scene for X1, Jean & the professor have a talk about how she lost control in the senate hearing.. although we'd not seen what that was referring to. It's actually a holdover from the previous scripts. To which Jean used her power in the hearing and Senator Kelly had witnessed it first hand. And another thing that always fascinated me was, Magneto tells Storm are you sure you saw what you saw ..(referring to Kelly dying).. so apparently it affects some differently and others, it has no real affect. So there's always a possibility that Kelly may still be alive honestly
I am glad they seem to have reversed this and are brining everything back into print gradually. It was the only way I was able to get The Web Planet on DVD
Most people praise Ottman's score over Kamen's but in all honesty, I'm a much bigger fan of Kamen's and what he did with X1. I think it's vastly underrated and under appreciated. The La La Land score for X1 is a phenomenal work of art. I know Singer didn't want him and he was an absolute last minute choice for the studio. Apparently he worked on that score for the better part of 4-5 months. Then eventually had to redo it. Singer never brings up Kamen or his score for X1. So you can tell no one wanted him. Which is even more sad to me. I think Kamen's score is LEAGUES above Ottman's and far more nuanced. It's chiling, bittersweet, thematic to the core, elegant and immensely beautiful and haunting. For a score to a superhero IP, it's heads and shoulders above Ottman's and almost anything done in the MCU today.. Kamen knew what he was doing thoroughly. And I've always thought his had tinges of the animated series on top of it. So really happy that was addressed
This genuinely makes me sad just reading the title. This was the definitive Sonic series back in the day and it's never been topped since then. I don't know why we Sonic fans can't have nice things anymore, besides Sonic Mania.
This is one of my favourite movies and probably the one that has aged best out of all of Whale's horror movies. I enjoyed your review, although you did get Una's role in Bride of Frankenstein wrong.
