I bought myself an X'Air in 2022 that was parked up in a hangar for nearly 4 years. Some TLC and she is flying again regularly. Still, a couple of things to do, but big boys and their toys are never done spending money...
Life's a journey, come fly with me and enjoy the ride!!
As you say one of the few flyable days, could feel a few of the bumps ,nice mellow musical accompaniment, anything available with a harp . Thanks as always for posting, hope to be visiting a few of your destinations when I have finished plans building
Greetings ! Am a 🇨🇦 Canadian 🇨🇦 UL Pilot who’s been following your Channel for a bit 👍 Just bought a 2007 X-Air Standard and will be trailering it across the country in early October. Very few of these on this side of the pond, but our eldest daughter lives in France and of course I am VERY familiar with this type and also the Hanuman from there. Question for you. Wondering why you don’t forward slip your landings from a higher angle approach? Seems to me with a fairly draggy airframe such as the Standard you could come in higher over the trees and slip almost to the runway. Just curious 🤔 This is the method I learned in the old RX-550 Beaver UL I learned to fly in back in the late 1980’s (YES, I’m old 😳😉🤣) Thx 👍
Two words, my Canadian friend. Bad habit! And that needs to get fixed before it bites me in the arse. My flying career also started in the early 80s on a Cessna 150 in South Africa, but life got in the way and I had to start over...
John, I have a strip of aluminium at the very front of the overhead "window" where it is bolted onto the frame. That places the camera above and slightly in front of me.
i don't even need to look at the asi to know my xair is approaching vne. the ailerons get heavy to move. why do they do the vne check. is it to show you are aware of it.
That's a good question. I can understand the first time following a build or major rebuilding but no idea why it is an annual requirement. Pointless and dangerous if you ask me.
Great video once again . 2 weeks ago I was flying toward the ocean on a calm day and dropped from 2000 down to 1200 ft to pass below another aircraft. It turned out to be a fishing boat.😁😅
Exactly what happened to us. I kept looking at the "aircraft" coming straight at us but it is not getting bigger at the rate I expected. Was so disorientating. As you can see, we had a good laugh about it.
lovely day. fred what is the highest airframe hours you have heard of for an xair. the reason i ask is when you look at how much the fuse tube flexs at the tail feathers, i wonder if any have ever cracked. mine looks fine but its hard to tell with aluminium. mine only has 399 hours. 2004 build.
Mine LOL Currently sitting at 565 and still going strong. Haven't heard on any issues with the tubes. Heard the elevator brackets on both sides do crack.
Had my first nppl lesson on Saturday changed from my previous ppl lessons to no go for microlights done it in a c42 just wondering what equipment would you recommend I get and how many hours do you think on average it take to gain nppl thanks
Hi Deon, Welcome to microlight flying. Way more fun. What do you need as a student? Nothing more than a passion for aviation. Your school should have headsets and, if it is a school that knows what they are doing, you should have been issued with a flight bag containing everything you need. Logbook, map, protractor and the rest. Anything else can wait for later. How long will it take? My suggestion is to not be concerned about how long. But do try and fly as often as possible to avoid having to review work you already done. Make sure to do your theory exams as soon as possible to get them out the road. Your instructor should tell you what your next exercise is going to be. Prepare yourself thoroughly before you arrive at the airfield. Read the suggested material and ask questions if you do not understand. My approach was simple. Learning to fly is a journey and never ends. Spend your 25, 30, or 40 hours with your instructor and enjoy it to the maximum. Somewhere along the road you will find yourself being sent on your first solo, your first solo cross country and before you know it you will do your pre-GST flight. Check my playlists. I recorded most of my training flights.
Hi Fred, thank you for uploading these videos. I’ve done one lesson in circuits into RW17 low field. I’m hopefully absorbing Jackie’s instruction through these. Time will tell 😅
No, I am not transponder equipped. All kinds of information you can get from SkyDemon. Mostly confirming frequencies, estimating distanced, heading and time to landmarks not part of the flightplan. Basically getting used to managing my resources. This season I want to work on getting more comfortable with ATC. Not having a transponder, I will have to make accurate position reports and estimations from time to time and SD is a valuable tool to assist in this.
@@lifesajourneyclub Not sure. But I don’t want to be spending a lot of money or time and effort putting it on and off either. Ladders aren’t my thing lol
General consensus is that nothing looks like it is falling off, so it should be fine 🙂 In all seriousness, it looks like the port gas strut. Have a badly positioned side view and you can see the spring bottoming out. The landing must give it just enough energy to put it in this bounce. Not sure if you can service them...
@@Aldergroveaviation24 That was myself and 2 other Skyrangers. We flew to Belfast from Navan, then onto Kernan. We got handling from Woodgate, £50 landing fee, no handling fee. Once you have a transponder and a radio they'll let you in. It was fun landing between all the Easyjet flights.
Hello I’m 17 from Derry/londonderry looking to do nppl soon as Ive a few hours in Cessna for ppl but looking to change how much should one budget for nppl and also can I ask on average what is the price to buy a microlight such as an xair Thanks
Hi Deon, Yes NPPL is a lot cheaper to do than a PPL and way more fun in the long run. How much it is going to cost is difficult to say. It depends on your performance. I would suggest you get in touch with Northern Light Aviation at Eglington. They should be able to give you a rundown. The costs of microlights varies considerable. If you looking at X'Airs, anything between £4500 up to £7000. Best is to keep an eye out on www.afors.com/three-axis-microlights/for-sale Remember the running costs as part of your budget for buying something.
