Cool video, I was looking at coming out there, I catfish a lot , was wondering what boat ramp you usually launch from , I have a tracker prov175, I know water is down quite a bit now , but I can usually pull boat back on trailer without using big motor with right angle of ramp , also just subbed
Awesome catch!!! I have been watching your videos recently and really enjoy them, I fish at hoover alot but I don't have a boat do you happen to know any good spots to fish for blue cats from the bank? thanks and good luck on your future fishing trips
I have not done much bank fishing on Hoover. It seems the blue catfish migrate everywhere on this Reservoir. I consistently catch them from 10 to 20 ft under floats with cut bait drifting with the wind. 🎣
2023 fish and game regulations Forage fish, rough fish, and game fish that do not have a possession or length limit on those waters may be cut up and used for bait, provided that the skin or head of the bait is intact so that the species is visually identifiable.
Holy catfish Batman!! That was a site to see, all of your rods are all set up and then 1 by 1 they all started bending over. Just beautiful. Great job fellow old timer.
Hi there. Thanks for the videos brutha. I appreciate the maps and your willingness to share your spots with us. I'll keep an eye out for more Hoover Reservoir videos from you! You do realize you're only allowed to legally use 2 rods on Hoover, right?
I took my son out there Saturday but we didn’t catch any blues. It was our first time fishing Hoover. Which end do you think is better? North or south?
There are three sections, south dam to first bridge, country line, middle section, county line to second bridge that goes over lake. North section second bridge to Galena. I fish the middle section. Alot of people fish twin bridges boat ramp area and ox bow ramp area for crappie. I use cheap walmart open face rod and reel combo for around 20 bucks. Called Shakespreare Tiger. They come with 20 lb mono line. Tie on a large snap swivel and attach at least a two oz bank sinker onto the snap, also create a 18 in leader line with large circle hook, #8 or larger. Attach hook on one end of leader and create a loop on other end. Attach loop to snap along with sinker and snap close. If you can catch small bluegill or crappie, cut into head piece and body piece and cut off tail or buy a raw chicken breast and cut across breast about 1/2 by 3 in slices. Put thru top of strip so the trip of hook is exposed. Make sure hook point is cleaned off and then whip the bait out as far as possible and drop to bottom. Take slack out of line and have a beverage and wait. See ya later.
I mainly drift fish a couple feet off the bottom with cut bait on the middle section of Hoover, between first and second bridge. Fish along ledge drop offs next to flats and points on east side of reservoir north of ramp. Your need a topo map of the reservoir to see the flat on the east side. Fish North section above second bridge on the flats and shallows in the spring as water warms up. Fish spawn in June and July so blue fishing is poor during this time. In my videos I typically show the location I am fishing and were I catch my fish. I fish mornings from sun rise to around 10 am in less than 6 MPH winds.
I would suggest under any of the bridges and along the concrete riprap. It may be good to use the navionics app to locate drop off areas close to shore so you can throw your line out over a ledge to deeper water. Use cut bait like shad, blue gill, crappie. I have used pieces of boneless chicken breast. I drift fish with my bait a couple ft off the bottom. It may be possible to use a large float and have the breeze drift your bait out into the reservoir. See Ya Later.
