Hi. Im having problems with importing clips into premiere pro. Some clips work and others aren't able to generate the peak file. Do you reckon it is somthing to do with the cf card?
Hi, how come when I open the card with RU-UTIL it tells me single Clip of 7File but when I download it on the PC it tells me 7 files divided and not single file, why? Am I doing something wrong?
@@mikecrook Thanks for the reply I have a CF card reader I insert it and it sees it well then I open RU_UTIL and it sees a clip that inside there are 7 files I assume 4GB since I would like all the footage on a single file I would like it to become a single file during the import phase so as not to lose audio of 4/5 seconds at the end do you have any alternatives? It worked well before
@@mikecrook I already have the V3 version in the MRC1K but the problem is that the 1H recording makes all the files 4GB and with RU_UTIL.Exe I should download only one file but this does not happen it always downloads separate 4GB files making me lose the final audio of the 2/3" clip
@@mikecrook but have you never recorded continuously for 30 minutes or 45 minutes? it creates multiple files then it should attach them all together in one file when you download it I use 32GB extreme have you never tried this function? don't you know that the last clip loses audio by 2/3 seconds?
I recently got the MRC1. Everything works perfectly with the VX2000. But my VX1000 only records, but cannot play back the footage. The screen in the viewfinder remains black and does not display DV IN. In general the playback works with tape. Has anyone had similar experiences? Maybe I just need the right settings on my VX?

Whats up mike, just ordered my recorder and can't wait for it to arrive! The idea is to use on my Sony PDX10 and it seems that will work just great. Now I'm ordering the compact flash card, battery and cable. Do you know if the Sandisk Extreme 32 gb 160 mbs will work the same as the 120 mbs? Somehow the 160 mbs is cheaper and I guess it's suppose to be better. I read that some people coundln't make any card over 16 gb to work. Also read something about the voltage of the battery being relevant, do you have any recomendations on that matter? Thank you in advance, your videos are a life saver.

I’ve read everything that I could find online about possible issues on why the recorder doesn’t records or even recognize the camera but my problem seems to be diferent of everything I could find. I ran a test with the recorder on my Panasonic GS-300 following the steps on your tutorial; formating the card, setting up on the menu etc; and it worked like a charm. Was able to record and even playback the clips on the câmera VCR mode (even though I figured I have to turn on the camera before the recorder, on the contrary of what you suggested on the tutorial). On the VX1000, I cant’ seem to make it record. When I click the bottons, on the same circumstances of the previous succeded test on the GS nothing happens. I wondered if maybe it had something to do of something on the setup of the VX1000, but cause of my being a Japanese model is getting harder to navigate and find possible clues on what could be. When in VCR mode and connected to the recorder, the viewfinder even shows a “DV” next to an Japanese algorithm, makes me think that it at least recognizes the recorder. The other detail is that my VX1000 just came from repair and the firewire port is certainly functional and as the test shows, the cable is also functional. The ony thing I wasn’t able to do was updated the software to V0.3, because I don’t have the USB port to connect it yet, but as it worked on the GS300 with the V0.2, I don’t think the updated is going to be the solution. If you have any thoughts on this situation please let me know, got to get this thing going. Thank you in advance for all your tutorials and effort put on spreading knownledge for us.
sup brother, have mrc1 with pal vx1k and it doesn't play back to the camera records fine, everything works great, but doesn't play clips back do you have any ideas - why?
Yo Mike i need your help! So my setup is a vx2100 and I got myself a DVR-MRC1. Iv not done the update file just yet. I have followed the video and set everything up but the update. When I press record nothing happens. Iv noticed in the comments to check the ports on the camera and they are working. I did buy a fairly decent cable on Amazon and wasn’t a cheaper option. My MRC1 is working with my CF card (transcend 32gb)as far as I’m aware. And It has been formatted. The issue only comes from when I click the two buttons to record nothing happens?. It there setting on the vx I should change or Should I do the update v3 then try again? or do you suggest a new cable? Thanks ✌️
@@mikecrook Sorry for double posting... That said, I watched a few videos where people said RAW DV was the way to go. I know to little to confirm or deny this, but having the word RAW in it, makes me believe it's "better". Anyhow. Thanks.
This little device was giving me hell at first. Sometimes it filmed,sometimes it didn't. It was unreliable. Then I got fresh batteries and changed my firewire cable. That was all it needed to start working just the way it was intended. So if you are having issues,try doing the same thing.
I got mine a few weeks ago and I am having a bunch of trouble getting it to record all the time. Sometimes it records and other times it doesn't. I have no idea why. Tried a bunch of different CF cards and another Fire cable is on its way. I feel like it has something to do with the order you turn everything on, and hook everything up. Sounds crazy, right? Thanks.
the number one issue is the cord, people are buying cheap amazon cords, I bought 6 to try and only 2 out of the 6 worked. Try and find a high quality cable.
Good to know. I had a feeling the cord had something to do with it, so I ordered already a new cable. Hopefully this one will work all the time. So when I connect the HVR-MRC1 to the VX1000 turn on the MRC1 first and then the camera my MRC1 is going to freeze in the moment the camera is turning on. No matter if Camera or VTR. When I turn the camera off again the MRC1 is not frozen again. Whats the issue there? I have these components: SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash 32GB 160MB/s FireWire Cable IEEE 1394A FireWire Cable IEEE 1394. Both cables give the same result.
@ook the pins seem to be okay and in order. I just ordered a Firewire PCI card to connect the Camcorder to my PC. Then we will see what will happen so I can exclude the problem to be at the miniDV port.

@ook okay I got some news. I got a PCI Chip for my Windows 10 PC with firewire ports. The camera is being recognized as Photo eiditing device but not as camera device. When I go to stream labs and take the DV as source for getting its picture I can chose the cam in the video recording sources tab but after that nothing happens. So at least the camera is getting recognizes but I actually dont know how to use it linked to my computer. The MRC1 is freezing again when I connect it to the PC. Same procedure as with connecting it to the cam. Only thing I managed now is to capture Tapes via Sony Vegas. I even can click on "capture tape" in vegas and the signal is going to the camera and it starts to rewind to the beginning and then plays the whole tape.
will work with a vx2100, I have this camera as well, avoid the adapters, inconsistent to if they work or not. Sandisk extreme pro 32gb CF card is 100% working. Do not go above 32gb. @@RobertoLopez-wj4sq

Hey Mike, Thanks for this great tutorial. I wonder if you can help me troubleshoot a small issue I've been having. I follow all the instructions using a vx2100/ mrc 1 (with sandisk 32gb extreme pro CF card) and it's not letting me record. It says No File, and won't record no matter what I do. I even updated the firmware to 3.0 and still no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :).
I found your video and immediately pulled the trigger. Bought everything you have to film my little rippers. Then immediately after purchase found a local deal on a mint HDR-FX1 which the MRC1 should pair with as well. Found your IG, love the videos and your son's name.
@@mikecrook I Just got my MRC1 in today and exchanged my CF for the 120MB you recommended. I feel like I saw it somewhere but was there a setting I need to turn off in the VX so it won't go into sleep mod while recording with the MRC?
the viewfinder is a screen on a vx1, or you just mean so all the homies can watch. I just bring my laptop and drop the clips at the spot @@RafaelZeratai
I mean while you are recording the viewfinder gets disabled by the “no cassette” notification? Or does it work normally with the hvr mcr connected to it? Because on the video while you record you can’t actually see what you are recording just guessin by pointing the camera where you want. After that I know you can watch them clips but during recording you can’t?
The viewfinder stays on while recording, the no tape icon is very small in the middle. This is the same on every camera I have tried with the MRC1@@RafaelZeratai
Hello there. My MRC1 is PAL. Is the V3 firmware you have linked PAL, or NTSC only, or both? Also, is there a way to copy and save the existing software on the MRC1, in case of a failure so it can be re-installed?
Why film skating with a camera from 1995 She is beautiful and may be of interest to a collector But what advantage does she have max DV resolution and no slow motion possible In 2023 I really don't see its advantage
The VX1 is still the best in hand skate camera, its the balance of the camera in hand, light weight, lens, audio, and the handle. This combination makes it very hard to replace.
@@mikecrook Very strange but it's true that for RU-vid streaming and watching on a smartphone screen this quality is enough. And for slow motion shots how we do it with this collection caméra.
@@luciebloem9150 Very easy to interpolate 30 fps footage to 60fps in todays world. Theres nothing wrong with HD just for a filmer I would rather film with a 6lbs full set up than a 17lbs setup. I have both SD and HD and still prefer VX but its subjective, what ever you like you like. no wrong answers.
@@mikecrook Thank you for your response I do slow motion with Adobe Première 10X from full HD 50. I am not criticizing your choice but just having a lot of difficulty understanding. But true Sony had succeeded in 95 with a beautiful camera. Also, to film skateboarding, which doesn't require 16/9 or 2.35 or high resolution, it must be more pleasant to film with a VX1000 than with a smartphone. ...I did skateboarding too and even skateboarding with a sail!
