I have a KODAK Slide N Scan. It takes me 20 minutes to digitize 20 color slides. This includes the time it takes to remove the sides from their glassine sleeves, the time to blow off the dust from BOTH sides of the film, the time to center the slide in the device and capture it (after deciding on the best exposure) and the time to put all the slides back into their glassine sleeves. There is NO WAY I can scan 10 slides per minute!
There is a button on the top that says "RGB" if you hit that and then move the arrows up or down you can adjust the colors in your scan. I typically don't adjust that for slides, however if you are seeing colors different from your originals it is possible that was accidentally changed.
That's not very good advice for file security man! And when it comes to protecting digital photos (my expertise) I will still be advising that everyone keep their photos on both a local device and a cloud service.
no, not all photographs like this. it depends on your local area. do not dunk your photograph in water if you don't have an extra copy of the said photograph and not sure if it's fully waterproof (waterproof on cut edges as well). you don't want to ruin an important photograph, be careful everyone. also thanks for this video ❤
I’m so glad you commented! I am interested in understanding people who pointlessly leave negative or derogatory comments on strangers posts. I’m fascinated by that cultural phenomenon. Is it people who are deeply empty and sad or is just assholes? Probably a little of both. I guess you would know better than I would though.
Great video! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am 29 and have been going through our family photos. Not only have I been organizing mine and my parents photos, but also the ones that my grandparents had, which includes photos dating all the way back to the late 1800's. I have everything at the moment roughly organized by family and date and have scanned the majority of the photos. I have also given away duplicates to family and also got rid of the bad blurry pictures from the 80's and 90's (the one's that didn't turn out good). I also made a Scrapbook for my Mom and I am also working on one for me. I hope to eventually do one for my Dad and at least a couple of family albums. I will be sure to use photo corners for the older photos. Since I am the young family genealogist (LOL), I hope to eventually do a family history photo book, where multiple copies can be given to other family members. I will definitely keep watching this channel since I have made more contact with extended relatives who are sending me more photos.
That is so awesome that you have taken on that job! It's so important and it will definitely be appreciated more and more over time! I hope you continue to have success and find continued enjoyment in the project! And thank you for following along! please let me know if there are any specific topics you would like to see videos on!
@@The.Krista.K Thanks for the reply. The only suggestions that I can think of that might help other people is to not only sort chronological (if possible), but by family. Also declutter some of the photos. Not every photo needs to be saved. If there are duplicates, give them away to family or toss them.
After Hurricane Ian hit my area and tons of people lost their print photos, I know the safest place is having that digital back up! Anything can happen to those print pix - even humidity can damage a photo for good
Use a damn scanner! With a phone it will be a shitty copy. There are many solution with a scanner and work arounds to do it with one. The quality of the phone will always be worse than any scanner.
Thank you for the kind comment! I appreciate your insights. I too suggest people use a desktop scanner whenever possible. My favorites are listed on my website if you need suggestions. There are some times when a scanner just isn't possible, that is the reason for this video (thanks for watching btw!) . In those moments, I do suggest using an app. My experiences and my understanding of who I am helping actually does lead me to suggesting an app more often than I'm guessing you would understand. I do hold my BFA in photography though, so I absolutely get your quality argument however, having helped hundreds of people salvage damaged photographs and digitize personal collections, I have a very different understanding of the everyday persons needs and best practices to help them. On occasion, that means using an app.
I am a new fan/follower and am so glad to have found you! I enjoyed this video and definitely want to buy a photo scanner at some point. I am also looking for one that may do 12x12 size so I can scan old photo album pages. I have a burning question...how did you create the photo wall behind your desk? are those all individual photos mounted to the wall, or did you make posters, wallpaper, or what? I love it!
Thank you for the kind words and for following along! I love having a community of fellow photo lovers here! A scanner is definitely a photo organizing must. You'll probably need a flatbed scanner to do something that large OR a phone app like Photomyne could be helpful. As for that photo wall... I should do a video on just that!!! I get a lot of questions on it. It's ALL 4x6 size prints of phone pictures printed with white boarders and then spray glued onto some inexpensive doors that I bought at Home Depot! It's actually a pretty easy project!!
Thank you for the kind words! I'm so glad to hear you've found this helpful. It's so important to get those old pictures digitized, glad to hear you are on that project!! Good luck with your scanning!!!
