We had a different discipline, and mindset when I went through PI back in 1980! We had a few Privates, not recruits at that time, that needed extra attention, but we all got through!
Was stationed there back in April 86 to 87 I had those old barracks right by the seawall near sickbay man that place has changed bigtime had a blast there especially coming from camp Lejeune used to go out and party out in town right outside the main gate missed those days I want to go back and visit on friendship day if they still have it. semper fi
been in the navy for 7 years. i was with the seabees as. there were 2 differnt barracks. one that looks a lot like your but only 1 bathroom and no kitchen or watching unit. the rooms are the same. have your own privacy but the bricks at mcas looking nice man. i just got posted and am waiting for my orders to iwakuni. this is a dream come true. ive always wanted to be stationed in Japan since i was a kid. cant wait.
We had Marines in some of our PME and MOS Schools and while we had to be in PT formation and doing PT they were allowed to do calisthenics on their own in their rooms while we froze our asses on the PT field in February.
1st Battalion Delta Co. 1997 Parris Island. My experience was a little bit different than yours. My Black Friday was horrible. The DI's were knocking us around. They took all of our stuff in our foot lockers and dumped it in the middle of the squad bay and poured laundry soap over everything. One recruit wasn't pulling the stuff out of his seabag fast enough so they put a garbage can over him. Another recruit got put into the maintenance closet. It's funny now but it wasn't when it actually happened. One recruit lost his weapon and we got phukking smoked because of that. The DI's made the recruit carry around a plant when we were marching around and was told if anyone ask's you why you are carrying a plant, you tell them because I'm stealing oxygen from my platoon Sir/Ma'am. I got many more stories of bootcamp. Overall, yeah it changed me as well. I made some really good friends that I still keep in contact with to this day.
hey, Im aware this video is outdated, I wanted to ask for knowledge. Im going into the marines in august as air escape/ firefighter and I want to go overseas to asia but I have no clue about how that works. is it possible for a 17yr old PFC to be stationed there if so could you tell me the steps I have to take? Thank you for your time
I'd be first concerned about boot camp (Aug 2024?) and afterwards A school than going to Asia. After completing A school you'll be transferred to a duty station. Will it be the US, east coast, west coast, Japan? You'll find out eventually. If you do get Japan it will be an eye opener, something really different, a lifetime memory. Good luck.
When you go to the school house. Request overseas assignment. That’s the best you can do. PFCs don’t hold a lot of weight. But it’s still possible!! Not many people want to go overseas. So you are more likely to get selected.
Listen here devil dog who the fuck thought you had a blouse your boots. Hi go get you some blousing bands do with them stupid ass Velcro shit things unless you want to freaking roll up a fucking extension cord OK you leave your trousers up and around your freaking waist Roger that you take the fucking strings if there’s any on the new trousers out of the bottom because they’re useless with her scissors but you roll your fucking bottom of your pant leg in about half inch increments up to just shy of the top your boot double boot band each side which makes it nice and tight lace your boots all the way up keep the top freaking boot lace whole completely empty wild knowledge and your dog tags in your left boot tie knots in the tip of the freaking boot lace so you can freaking unleased and lease it up nice and quick and tight and I have to worry about it coming undone it’s good to have and remember it’s for combat. Can you take your blouse in bands OK and you wrap your freaking trouser ends up underneath the blouse in bedded in pull it down nice and snug when you’re stand it up to the top your freaking boot now it’s covering your freaking laces that are tucked around the top and it’s also covering the top lace hold is empty. And you always take a freaking today even new boots take a Scotts brush which I know damn well you got one Boot Camp and freaking one of them suede cleaners and clean your freaking nasty boots all the time whether you have to look nasty you don’t have to be nasty always have pride in that uniform they should never done away with ironing your Cammies in freaking spit shine in your boots. You can also take your freaking uniform Roger that and laying underneath your fucking rack which means pressure will make it nice and flat you don’t have to start it to make it look good. They also say you can’t iron the uniform OK does that mean you need a rock ‘n’ roll round and Diddy bop with a freaking cover that looks like a bag of smashed assholes. Negative that things should be crisp and every one of the freaking corners of the tip of that cover nice and standing tall even though you guys are nasty in the freaking sewed together for you so you don’t have to iron the freaking creases in the top of the cover anymore. There’s many people in mini Marines I have to say not people but it came before you and that’s what you’re doing OK if you don’t set the freaking example where you can barely reach in on a daily basis and you just say whatever you have an earned the right to do that and everyone is come before us and has fallen you owe to them is that standard do everything to achieve them every day and never set the standard slow because that’s not what a marine is.
Stop being freaking nasty boot, 03 and whatever minutes and 04 and whatever minutes act like you’re friggin Leifer been in for forever. You’ve never deployed what do you know about mob gear in a combat zone and mop level even. You ain’t even got a car how can you drive around bass! Boom boom and I’m not meaning with wheels talking about combat action. You’re making us all look fucking retarded now all of us that are out look back when are you jack ass is on the social media crap well guess what start being motto and stop acting like you’re just back on the block Diddy bop in 10 feet off the ground on a freaking Tijuana two-step. There you go that freaking Moto shit that’s what I’m talking about. 5 miles no good 6 miles no way no 789 maybe run all the way to Oslo Beach and back-and-forth that way when you’re done with PT on Monday Wednesday and Friday it’s almost like 1130
You guys live soo much differently. In the 70's just decrepit open bay barracks with open heads, gyms for the most part didn't exist. No enough funding for pretty much everything. Marine Corp didn't seem to care, they had you for the length of your contract. Very few ever reenlisted.
Wear your cover inside too. Unless you are on duty your cover is not to be worn. I'll bet everything that your undisciplined body has waltzed into gas stations wearing PT gear as well. What happened to my Marine Corps? Is a question everyone should be asking.
I was a 7051 at Yuma 96, till I was med retired in July of 99. I was the Hazmat guru, Material Nco etc and hung out at my other office at the P40 building
Big improvement from barracks I was in. 1991-93 Ordnance. I miss the Mongolian Bar-B-Q night at the E-Club the most! Oh, and the Soba truck coming around on the weekends!
Lol i went from Yuma barracks to Iwakuni from 2014-2019. Been out since 2019. Way too many blacked out nights to count. One of my RU-vid videos actually was filmed in that barracks ha
I loved field day because there was hardly ever anything to do, me and my roomies kept it clean at all times. We didn't have so much crap, just TV and VCR, my espresso maker, PC, boombox.. no huge TV or full-on stereo extravaganza. No BS snacks except for a bag of chips and a bottle of Jim Beam or Tequila and some beer. Stripping and waxing the hallway? Wow, big Fn Deal.
1996, Camp Hansen Okinawa, I had an espresso/cappuccino machine and coffee bean grinder in my room. Everyone thought I was eccentric because I liked strong gourmet coffee. Junior marines weren't coffee drinkers back then, and neither were the higher ranks. Nobody had even heard of Starbucks. Even Starbucks never impressed me because I was a Peet's coffee fan. I wonder if there is a Starbucks at Hansen now...
"Junior Marines weren't coffee drinkers back then, and neither were the higher ranks" *TF* ??? I got out in 1988 and Gunnys had a dent in their guts where they rested their coffee cups.
Wow! The barracks rooms when I was there in 2001 were glorified closets. Shared bathrooms and community laundry. This is a major improvement. Glad to see it.
lol, I was there in 1985. Sounds like you had the same barracks we had. Bonus points for my specific barracks - real close to the flight line. We often had jets warming their engines 100 yards away with the exhaust aimed towards us. Other than that, great duty. Semper Fi
Wow! This looks great! I lived there about 20 years ago and it was just rooms. Maybe a fridge. It was old back then so I am happy to see they upgraded it. I would have liked to be able to cook in my room. I lived right next to the clinic (I was a corpsman). At least I had my own room.
You should of seen what we lived in 1978-1979. Old wooden building, one floor, open bay with wall lockers separating the bunks. The head and tv room were in the middle. We also had a barracks papasan. Those were the days.
@@joehrlein847 You're 'xactly right about the old long wooden building. Yes, cubicles divided by wall lockers. I remember sleeping on the top bunk when I felt my first earthquake. I peered out the curtain into the hallway thinking some buddies had rattled my bunk. Instead everyone came out their cubicles asking 'What the hell was that!' Me thinking WOW! I just experienced an earthquake. Oh fond memories. Very glad you remembered the paper bag lunches. I would pick some up and head right back across the runway to our crew's radio shack. Oh the E-club. I'm glad you confirmed the location because I looked on Google maps and couldn't find the barracks. Of course I was there 45 years ago. My memory also eludes me. Thanks a lot for sharing. You probably went to Kintai bridge and Hiroshima by train. Had to forget American courtesy and elbow your way to board otherwise you'd be left behind ha. Being Air Wing I drove from Mainside to Wingside often. Downloaded music onto cassettes from music room inside a Quonsen(?) hut. Even had a tailored made suit which I still have but doesn't fit haha. SEMPER FI.
@@Gethsemane956 In our barracks, in the back half, we had enough room where we only slept on the bottom bunk. Yes, I also remember the earthquakes. I also went to Hiroshima on the train, visited Peace Park and the museum. One time we rented a row boat on the river in Hiroshima. Also I've been to the bridge many times. I used to run from the base to the bridge and back to the base. I wish I could run like that now. Another nice event was the cherry blossom festival. We were of course drinking at the festival and some of the Japanese were also drinking. I left Iwakuni and went to Camp Pendleton for release from active duty (RELAD). I got out Nov 8, 1979. It's been almost 45 years ago since I got out. Where did time go?
