We live in a small town near Madrid. Why? Because Madrid has so much to offer. But we prefer the country so we bought property nearby. We live in a typical small Spanish town, off the beaten path - not in any tourist guides. We love that the town center has managed to maintain its original character. My videos are a little different from many because we're not just visiting Spain - it's our home now! I don't pretend to know everything about Spain or Madrid. Called in Guernica on my motorbike en route to Bilbao on 25 April this year. Didn't realise that was the day before the 87th Anniversary of the Nazi 'experimental' bombing of this beautiful town. Very nice lady in the Tourist Office asked me why I was there. My answer was to "pay my respects to the victims of that terrible day". She explained a lot of the detail, including the horrendous casualties. Very Very sad. Made even worse by fact that so many conflicts still rage today. RIP victims of Guernica, and all of today's pointless conflict. PEACE
Love the place, found completely by accident but so glad we did. you can stay in The Monastery of Leyre other side of the lake, very basic but a nice experience, still a working monastery where you can go to the chants, very worthwhile but don’t expect the luxury of the Parador!

Perfect. It is basically a pronunciation guide. The problem starts when there are various different accents exist. In NL there are about 250 local dialects. My mother, a butcher from Tilburg, couldn't begin to understand the Eindhovens dialect spoken there. So she switched to Nederlands aka Dutch. PS The distance between Tilburg and Eindhoven is a mere 32km. I have a Brabant accent but I can't speak neither Eindhovens nor Tilburgs. 😂

I'd be glad provide some suggestions. You can go to my "about this channel" page and click on my contact link. Then choose the method of communication, such as email or WhatsApp. It's easier to share lengthy text or a file using that method. I'll start creating a response today and share that with you. Buying property can be tricky because, from my experience, the seller chooses a real estste agent to sell it through, and it may listed with just that one agent. The plot next door may be listed by another agent. They don't seem to share listings. We went to a few agents just to figure out who owned the property we wanted. The property we wanted wasn't even for sale, but the agent found the owner and only then was it put on the market. The town hall will not provide property owners names because, for some reason, it's not allowed, unlike in the US where you can go to city hall and look at the Plat maps, which include the property owner's name. By the way, WhatsApp is used A LOT in Spain for making free phone calls and texting. Even international calls.
