Changing the output of the synth before the compressor changes how the compressor manages the signal which changes the sound. Many of the software FX are designed to with sweet spots regarding the input level. It might be better to adjust the final plugin's output so that you are only changing the decibel level going into the fader and not also the quality/tone of the patch.... if you like the sound of the original sounds of the patch and the included effects designed for it. Thanks for this... is there a quick way of bypassing mastering plugins when listening to a reference track? I want to compare my track and a reference track quickly without having to solo and bypass plugin all the time. Im in Logic Pro. Cheers. ;-)
Hemingway App wouldn't recognize an adverb if one bit it on the nose. It looks for "ly" endings, many of which words are adjectives, and occasionally even nouns. It misses many -- most, in fact -- adverbs that do not end in "ly". It makes mistakes in other areas, as well, but adverb/adjective confusion is its greatest fault.
An excellent idea! We need more musicians options and platforms available to provide alternatives to the big streamers that continually rip off the artists. If there’s enough alternatives, more musicians can boycott the streamers.

This is the best tutorial on the subject I've seen. Thank you for helping to demystify. I've been trying this out on a track that is nearly ready for mixing but some of my recorded guitar is way too hot and using any of these methods takes the guts out of the sound. Do you recommend using pre fader mode to monitor when recording guitars?

Indeed! However complex tones found IRL and music can be broken down into their harmonic components, sine waves. The use of a sine wave here was to simplify the demonstration

I am currently trying to prepare a few tracks for release. I’ve been quite frustrated with the final levels. I thought streaming platforms would level the music up but when I put a single out is was still quieter than other similar tracks by other artists. How can I fix this problem ?
When you enter actual Ernest Hemingway text into this app, it consistently gives it a poor grade. Was Mr. Hemingway a poor writer? No. This is a flawed app. It may have some use, but don't take its grades too seriously.
This was really good!!! And everything makes sense here. So, i am guessing gain staging should be done after processing each track (achieving a desired sound) so every track is ready to be simply mixed ( level wise) and then mastered?
