The trouble is encountered when I heard several people state that Marxism was predated with identical thinking, an echo of the politics and drama that happened in the late 1700s French Revolution that was put together by esoteric levels of freemasonry. The same playbook is used by so many people that it is not possible that these behaviors are not done by someone planning these things in advance of when they happen.
The problem I see with your interpretation is that Christianity has never been an espousal of the virtue of the weak or unable. Christianity manifests as the priest class leading by virtue of their hegemonic knowledge, literacy, and ability to gull the masses based on a promise of the divine recognition of the value of the everyman. The Romans, praised for their ruthlessness, power, and ingenuity, adopted Christianity as their official religion because Constantine and his peers were able to see its value in controlling and subjugating the masses.
I watched this lecture by Prof. Sugrue (excellent as always) right after watching Bryan Magee interview Herbert Marcuse himself on his Modern Philosophy program. It was very interesting to see how Marcuse defended himself with Magee and answered some of the same criticisms that Prof. Sugrue raised here, like the elitism charge. I find Aquinas' Final Cause view to be the missing understanding of life and its meaning in the modern world. Being to the highest degree and indeed beyond degree is literally perfect being, BEING... God. Why existence and being is intelligible in the first place. The core of what we call truth and sanity.
