Asalam o Alaikum. In this sermon from the time duration 12:10 to 13:55, Honourable Sheikh Sahab has said the word "Nisa" which to my insignificant knowledge means "woman." So shouldn't the translation be "Another thing that causes heart to die is to excessively talk and interact with women" rather than " Another thing that causes heart to die is to excessively talk and interact with the opposite gender”? Disclaimer: I don't mean to cause a gender fight. I genuinely want to know the truth here. I don't know Arabic language at all so my translation may be completely false although this translation has been quoted and misunderstood as sitting in the company of women may cause heart to die.

The more I try to educate myself about my faith the more I realise and acknowledge my very limited knowledge. It’s a never ending quest that keeps you stimulated and feeling alive. May Allah increase all of us in knowledge and make us vehicles of wisdom for our children 🤲🏼
There is another explanation for the part of this saying by Amirul Mumineen. The part that goes like this: إِنْ سَقِمَ ظَلَّ نَادِماً وَإِنْ صَحَّ أَمِنَ لَاهِياً يُعْجَبُ بِنَفْسِهِ إِذَا عُوفِيَ وَيَقْنَطُ إِذَا ابْتُلِيَ إِنْ أَصَابَهُ بَلَاءٌ دَعَا مُضْطَرّاً وَإِنْ نَالَهُ رَخَاءٌ أَعْرَضَ مُغْتَرّاً Amirul Mumineen is saying: “who, if fallen ill, repent their ways of life and on regaining their health fearlessly readopt the same frivolous ways; who get despondent and lose all hopes, but on gaining health, become arrogant and careless; “ From the above I understand that he is telling this man not to be like those who when they fall ill they return to God in repentance but once they regain their health they fall back to their old ways. This is also in line with the Quranic verse: Surah Yunus - Verse 12 وَ إِذا مَسَّ الْإِنْسانَ الضُّرُّ دَعانا لِجَنْبِهِ أَوْ قاعِداً أَوْ قائِماً فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنا عَنْهُ ضُرَّهُ مَرَّ كَأَنْ لَمْ يَدْعُنا إِلى ضُرٍّ مَسَّهُ كَذلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ ما كانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ “And when an affliction touches a man, he calls Us (while reclining) on his side, or sitting, or standing. But when We remove from him his affliction, he passes on, as if he never called Us to an affliction that touched him. Thus is made fair seeming to the extravagant that which they have been doing.”
The story of the man with a disability is so heartbreaking yet so beautiful. The fact that Imam Ali (as) would go and sit with people that had no friends is amazing. What a blessing it is to be able to learn about our Imam (as) 🤲🏽
It has become a difficult thing in western society to do. To approach and give importance to people who are not given much importance too. Especially since u have to bury your ego and pride. On top of that the person might not be a good communicator, but we as Muslims should follow and give importance to everyone inshAllah.
