Emmanuel is a community of followers of Jesus Christ. Our creed is ancient and our theology is progressive. We are seekers, doubters, questioners who believe that faith is a journey, not an event. We proclaim a Gospel of love that includes all people and we seek to serve the world in the name of the one who dined with sinners, called tax collectors into leadership, and showed a preference for the poor and oppressed.
Urban and suburban; rich and poor; LGBTQ and straight; families and single people; young, old, and anywhere in-between, all are invited to share and help to shape our community. We receive you as one who has a message for us, and we pray that you will find the spirit of Christ in our midst.
I went to a Catholic grade school, Mass every morning. We sang a different version of Panis Angelicus, in two different schools. I wish I could find that somewhere.
EPB version, at least in the edition of the Brahms collection I have. Yours is the only one I've come across with the melody in the pedal. I like both versions. My typical setting at church for pedal solo is a reed, but I like your softer registration that blends in more with the manual registration. I'm thinking otherwise that it could wind up being more fun to play than it is to listen to - 3 minutes of solo reed in the pedal. Glad I came across yours to get a different idea.
Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of Thine inheritance, in the place, O Lord, which Thou hast made for Thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which Thy hands have established. (Exodus xv: 17)
Sometimes musical /choral pronunciation will be determined by, among other things, the value of the note on which the syllable falls, in contrast to spoken languages.
I would suggest the Seattle Symphony recording (Gerard Schwarz conducting) as a good reference. Definitely slower! Alan Hovhanness was present for that recording. Very beautiful!
