i just recently got my class b and became a school bus driver and watching these videos have become very soothing and satisfying for me lol that bus is smooth
Also right after i got to the highway i saw a new prevost and the company name said signature or something i dunno and a vanhool that says peoriacharter
Charters are more random hours, but always do something different every trip. Schedule runs are more consistent, but some people don't like the monotony of them. I work in the office at Peoria Charter and always wanted to drive a large commercial vehicle (truck or bus, didn't matter); it was a no-brainer to train and get my CDL with the company without paying to go to a driving school. Personally, I also enjoy transporting passengers safely and comfortably to their destinations.
@alblua thank you, I have an opportunity to drive for a charter company but I also have a Class A and have another opportunity to drive trucks. The charter pays $28.00 an hour and the trucking pays .50cpm. Charter random hours, trucking consistent hours. Just un sure which direction to take
The dash board on all these different busses amazes me when I compare it to the old fish bowels- a speedo and an air gauge, a couple of knobs on the side window sill. Also I noticed that the tourrider was not a rattle trap- or at least not yet.
Is the bus new to you or an actual new model, the outside seemed mostly 1980s style and inside like 2015. What bus manufacturer is this btw? I have seen many old and new buses of very high quality and comfort, i was on a train replacment (setra coach bus)with a dark grey floor carpet lit by floor lights, it looked like a spaceship with a glass roof along the whole bus over the walking area, curtains and and LED light bars along the sides of the roof and buttons above seat are lit in blue. The light intensity would change whenever we approached a bus station. It was slightly similar to this on the interior except id prefer other seats for this video bus. But man the exterior feels so outdated. I've heard North america makes it hard to sell international bus brands there, so i guess exterior is fine for american standards. Similar with amazon delivery trucks, a 2019 model looked exactly the same as the 1980 model.
This is an actual new model, 2023 model year. The bus is a CX-45 manufactured by VanHool, which is a European bus manufacturer. Yes, the North American market is behind in bus design in comparison to other parts of the world!
I noticed you carry your inspections very thoroughly, the hand pointing during the inspection and the white gloves while working is so Japanese! Chefs Kiss!
Nice POV of driving that beautiful coach! Back in the last century, I went to work for a charter company in NJ when I was right out of college. At 21, I was the youngest operator. Company had GM 4106, 4107, 4905, Fishbowls and some old-looks. They were all 4 spd manual shift, double clutch. Some had power steering and most were ex-Greyhounds. I looked REALLY young at the time, like a H.S. kid and people would do a triple-take when they came up the steps and saw me behind the wheel. I got some great work experience, became a dispatcher and left on good terms to start a 41 year career in the airline biz. Anyway, your boss put up a link to your channel and that's how I ended up here. I'll be watching. Stay safe and have a blast. -Burt in NJ
Haha I literally watched this video first and when you were talking to James and ended the vid I watched one of James video and I saw you there and I was like wth?
I drive a Freightliner Cascadia. The Tourrider has basically an identical dash, other than the tach being on the left. Something about a tach on the right side drives me nuts lol
I’m sorry you’re tied up with shaming and misunderstanding habits that you are not used to seeing. Not only do I wash my gloves after every trip, I take my gloves off interacting with customers as they are rough textured for better grip on the steering wheel. They are not comfortable for handshakes.
I'm not sure what paperwork you're referring to in the video since I didn't include it. However, there are certain things a driver is required to complete before they can even move a bus for the day, which include vehicle inspection reports and HOS certification
have you gotten the inside scoop on their potential future buses? are they gonna buy Prevost H3-45s again soon? what was the feed back from drivers who drove the H3-45 that used to be with the company? also doesn’t that whistling on the vanhool bus get annoying? i know it would drive me crazy after some time
We already have 6 Prevost H3-45s! There are three 2020's of the older style, and three 2024's that are the redesigned 100 Edition. They're a favorite in the fleet among drivers and customers. The demo H3-45 you saw me drive was an experiment of sorts running H3-45's out of our Urbana facility. Yes, that whistling noise definitely drives me crazy too! All the older VanHools aren't particularly known for tight seals around the cracks (new ones have yet to stand the test of time).
What is the name of the tool you used to pull bags in your luggage bay and where is it available. I drive for a Palm Springs, CA charter bus company. Its hot and some of my airport runs can get a little tough.😰
I have two kinds! If you want sturdy, get a 5th wheel hook. It's a little hard to pack, but it's a much stronger and robust solution than the one you saw in the video. I only bring it if I know there's going to be a LOT of heavy luggage, and it pulls them well. For the one you saw in the video, look for a telescoping truck cargo grabber (or something along the lines of pickup truck bed grabber). The telescoping feature means it packs smaller, but it also tends to be flimsier and might struggle a little bit more with heavy bags.
New sub here. Came across the prom video as my first. Hilarious seeing your captions 🤣. Great sense of humor and i can tell you really love this job. Something that people lost. Pride in their work. Not just a check! Our school chartered out 3 of these in 2007. Obviously not the same make or model, but it was fun! The driver made us feel very safe for a 2 day trip. Loved the movies he had. Thanks for letting us come in 2nd place for the robotics national championship
@@alblua I'm trying my hardest to remember if it was greyhounds or not. Had the brighter seat colors, exact replica of an airplane overhead bins, and a bathroom. Last row was lifted a bit higher.
*SERIES 60 DETROIT! NICE!* A Legendary Engine. 14-Liter?!? This is an MCI, right?!? I was Reading About Coaches having Cummins Engines now, X12s. Which makes me Wonder, what the Manufacturers are going to do when the X10 Replaces it? An X15 would be a Bit Much for a Coach, but even so! LOVE the Videos, Brother! Keep Up the Excellent Work! You're Living the Commercial Driver Dream, man! I've always wanted to be( *AND WILL STILL BE* ), a Truck Driver, but having been a Bus and Coach Passenger in this Life, I thought I'd Try that Out, just to See what it's like. And...😅🤣😃!!! Wisconsin doesn't want me doing that(at least Not Milwaukee, where I live...). I Applied at Badger Coaches, too. Never heard back... Greetings from Southern Milwaukee County, man! 🤣😅😃!!! 105 Minutes North of you!
Yes, this a MCI J4500 with a Detroit Series 60! The J4500 only comes with the Cummins X12 right now. I don't recall what MCI's engine plan for the future is, but they were evaluating the X15 at one point. Sorry to hear it didn't work out, good luck on your commercial driving career!
Sorry, I'm not Korean so I'll have to use the help of a translator! To be able to drive a bus in the US, you'll need to pass a DOT physical and obtain a CDL Class B with minimum passenger endorsement. Most buses have air brakes, so you'll need the air brake endorsement too. Charter endorsement allows you to transport K-12 passengers; not necessary, but will limit the type of trips you can drive.
Our fleet coordinator and maintenance team work together to figure out where buses need to go. I have a place in Chicago to stay and then I usually ride as a passenger on a schedule bus back to Urbana
