For my sons, ages 7 and 6, I used this game as an example of poor sportsmanship. I used the 2014 Germany 7-1 win over Brazil as an example of exemplary sportsmanship. Brazil's defence was in complete disarray. The Germans could have won 10-0 but were ordered by their coach at halftime not to humiliate Brazil on Brazilian soil any further (though urban legend has it that one German player was in the can during this talk). Goals were less and less celebrated as the score widened throughout the whole game. Brazil did appreciate this and supported Germany as they defeated Argentina in the final. For me, though, this game made Canada's 1-0 win over the USA in the Olympic semifinals the following year even sweeter. What goes around comes around.
Legend has it the US Womens team is still scoring on Thailand here in 2024 with the score now at 38,596 to 0. You can tell Thailand really came prepared. This kinda reminds me of the Germany vs Brazil match. That was also funny. 😅
