So I have some strange hobbies. I'm a beekeeper, an organic gardener, and a crazy chicken lady. Come along with me and hopefully learn something about beekeeping, about gardening and about keeping chickens. I live in a strict HOA, too. Always interesting.
I have the exact same model myself as it been pretty reliable. I use my on road as I have it tagged and titled. I did replace the tires for tires that were more suitable for road use and set the suspension to the softest setting. Noise dampening material all around the engine compartment makes all the difference in the world with this thing. Finding someone to service these things is an absolute nightmare as nobody will touch it.
there always seems to be one or more bees stuck to the lower left corner of the landing pad. Not sure if they got leg stuck or if there is sticky stuff there, but watch....
We noticed that the butterflies grounded themselves, and shortly after, the birds were chirping at the same time the crickets were going. The crickets made a steady sound in unison. It was interesting. I'm not sure if the birds stayed or took advantage of crickets giving up their location. Everything went a little bit quiet at totality, even the dogs. I was an interesting experience. Thank you for your recording.
@jeffmeyers3837 we all know it's coming but the animals don't have a clue so it's interesting to see them all get quiet and start to settle down and when the light comes back they all start making noise and coming back out
As a beekeeper myself I'd rather be able to hear the sounds the bees are making better - I can tell a lot about what's going on with a colony from the sound. This video is nicely done and I'm sure it might be boring for some without the music. Thanks for doing it - I wish I could have been observing my own bees during the eclipse!
Thank you! I did think about that...but the time lapse of course distorts the sound....and I thought that, for most people, no music would make it harder to watch. Maybe I can post just the real time part during the actual totality with the native sound?
I can see why your bees are always stirred up! You use your smoker to open the hive and then you forget about it when you should be using it! If a Lion Tamer used his whip to establish dicipline and then set it down and forgot about it, he would soon lose control of thisgroup and would soon be injured or become dinner for his charges! A little bit of smoke before and after removing a frame will keep the bees from getting wound up. The Pros dont do that because of time restraints and they are generally armoured up anyway! If tthere are aggresive bees in the neighborhood it is hard to keep calm bees without buying in gentle queens each year! Good luck with your bees!
I have big one in my Amazon cart. You’re completely right. Also, I would prefer not to work bees when it’s cloudy but since I still work full time I have to take what I can get.
Avocados and tomatoes both have enzymes that are affected by refrigeration leading to *permanent* changes in flavor. Some enzymes involved in the production of volatile flavor compounds are permanently deactivated by refrigeration making many of the flavors we associate with these ripe fruits impossible to reclaim. Meanwhile other enzymes remain active and either destroy volatile flavor compounds or disproportionately produce unfavorable flavors that are often bitter, metallic, tannic, or even putrid. Finally, both fruits are structurally altered by refrigeration. For example, their pectin breaks down which can make them mealy and in avocados the saturated fats solidify leading to disproportionate ripening (or even rotting) of the fruit.
You seem very knowledgeable, so let me ask you something: I have a mild avocado allergy, but I find that I can tolerate pasteurized avocado products, likely because the enzymes (edit) or proteins I am allergic to get denatured. Do you know if refrigeration impacts those same enzymes?
@@lilgrannyari usually avocado allergies are caused by an underlying latex allergy because some fruits like avocado and banana have latex polymers. The allergy to latex is actually to proteins inside of the polymer matrix. Enzymes are special types of proteins that act as chemical catalysts so the denaturation may help for the same reason you suspect but not specifically for enzymes. The cold would likely prevent denaturation because it slows all chemical activity including the breakup of proteins. Pasteurization is a form of cooking and any heating past a certain temperature is likely to begin denaturing proteins. Most proteins will begin to denature in the range of 40-70C and pasteurization is usually slightly above or at 70C. However, the immune response to protein is because the body produces antibodies to some portion of the protein structure but you wouldn’t know which part ahead of time unless you administered an mRNA vaccine to target that part of the protein. For denaturation to cause reduced histamine response it would need to denature in a way that results in a new structure or structures that are not compatible with the antibody. There’s also a possibility if your symptoms are mostly gastrointestinal that it’s the high levels of potassium in Avocados (as in Bananas and Potatoes) that cause distress. Potassium induces the release of hydrochloric acid in the stomach which can cause acute reflux especially in those who already suffer from a gastric hernia, chronic acid reflux disease, or regularly experience gas, bloating, indigestion, and heartburn I’m not sure how pasteurization would help in the case that it’s the high potassium causing your discomfort. It’s possible it makes the potassium less bioavailable in some way. Finally, bodies are sometimes strange. People can and do develop allergies to all sorts of substances in ways that don’t happen to others. It could be anything in the avocado and the pasteurization seems to undo whatever that is. Perhaps triglycerides break down into shorter fatty chains that your body isn’t as bothered by. Perhaps the polysaccharides break down into smaller carbohydrates. Who knows.
I’ve learned over the years that you are going to rile the bees up when trying to work hives during a overcast. I always get stung multiple times from even my calm hives when it’s really cloudy and there’s a storm front moving in.
Hmm, wouldn't like them coming to get me, if it wasn't an external issue making them so aggressive, I think I'd replace the queen if that kept up for very long. May I recommend a smaller syrup container you don't wana hurt yourself, that looked heavy. Thanks for sharing your time, Blessed Days...
Thank You! I agree. I own smaller jugs but couldn't put my hands on them when I was making syrup. I know where they are now. Also, I have queens ordered but I won't have them until late April. 😞
We made our chicken tractor out of PVC, wire mesh, and zip ties. It took a whole day to build it, but it's lightweight & tall enough so we can walk inside AND we saved $1,500 - $3,000.
First and foremost - I'm the other person.... I reeeeally didn't stand around that much - hahaha Also, her farm is a peaceful place to sit and enjoy some nature. It's nice to get out of the city every once in a while.
