Great film and fabulous music. Although not publically accepted the lesbian and gay clubs in the 80s were amazing and the music was the BEST. Happy to have been able to experience it then but also pleased see the progress made since then.
this is honestly the best thing I’ve seen all day, my mental health hasn’t been the best recently so to see this it makes me so happy..an also Joy division in the start of video..made me cry, its a comfort band that hits close to home so thank you, even if you don’t see this! 💙
hi!! so this is a non-profit directors' cut - so this video is entirely unmonetised so that I could use as many needle drops as I wanted - I then got an independent composer to make a copyright free score based off of this version, and then used that for film festivals where I wouldn't get away with this soundtrack
literally from the first two seconds of this video u had me like I was like this girlie's got a *vision* & she UNDERSTOOD the assignment- the way you draw out the scene & create like this awkward humorous tension, exposing your humanness in just setting up the camera and taking a second to adjust (also w/ how u ended the video tooo)- idk why that stuck w/ me but then I reeeealized that that's also a really present quality in 1987 like that's what made the fish & chips scene so funny and real and ur brilliant and I love the campy vibes of it all!! like did i mention the *VISION*- i just feel that u understand something that goes deep that most directors don't (& if we're being honest, most people) and that's really special. i felt seen in your work (in debbie and friday & in u in this video & the *audience*), so thank you for that- u the shit & the moment (even tho I'm like 2 years-post but whatever)💅💅
You are a f7king genius friday i'm in love by the cure playing on the background off the scene were she calme her cause her name is friday !!!!!!!!!!!! Fucking genius
The table scene is so good omg everything is so good (ps the homophobic scene w the girls in the bathroom w the homophobic girls looking gay as hell too lmfao)
I’ve been going through short queer films & this one accurately and beautifully portrayed the queer girls’ lives <3 amazing videography and editing 🌈👏🏻
oh my god okay no words i usually dont really watch short films but this is one of the best ive ever seen snd i know you probably read that a lot or wont take this as much but truly everything here was so professional and i really think that you could become a big director
AA!! this is so sweet! I've been a little distracted the past few years working my way through a film degree, but I've been slowly chipping away at a feature length script of the same concept, unfortunately Tabitha's moved to London to pursue her dream of being a stage actor (and she's killing it) and Frances has moved away from acting and is focusing more on a career as a music producer (and she's also killing it) however we're all still very much friends and I recon they'd both be down for reshooting if the production schedule was manageable enough.
this is SOOOOOO GOOOD ive watched it so many times and the scene where they both pack and go to the train station is perfect. the soundtrack it brilliant and the actin gis marvelloous. every now and then i just have to come back and watch it :)))
2 things. 1. 5:34: The question, Friday is whether you will be happy. Are you willing to give up what you feel for Deborah and the possibility of a future with her? Are you willing to settle for someone who may make you accepted, maybe someone you could grow to like, but someone who can never be your everything, like Deborah is? Only you can answer that question. 2. 9:54: Someone certainly thinks highly of themselves if you think that Friday would ever want you like that. I don’t think she is drunk enough or has enough self loathing to bother with you, especially when she already likes someone who deserves someone like her.
This is a good film! Except for the fact that "Friday I'm in Love" by The Cure came out in 1992 lol. Doesn't really matter though, it's still a great film!💜
I’m a year late to this but I like to go on monthly sprees of watching random lesbian short films and I adore this blooper real so much, lowkey wanna do a short film with my friends but none of us have any chemistry and we would all be making fun of each other the entire time 💀
5:40 That part where she tries to suppress her queerness and wonders if she could try to force herself to be with a man broke my heart. I feel truly bad for any person who’s tried to change themselves just to fit in with society’s expectations.
I love this video with all my heart but that song at 2:25 I just need to know what it’s called because I am literally obsessed.. 😁 great video btw and Friday oh my god 😘😋 alright enough of me ✌🏼
I'm not a fan of the whole "oh this should be a feature or TV series" for every short I see on comment section on RU-vid but I think this is one rare times I'll say you got something special with this short that could expand to be a strong feature film or even a good Webseries. I love the style you went with as you took some risks with the storytelling and presentation of the short and the performances from the cast especially Frances Lake were top notch, she's really great in it . Even a show just based around the Friday Character would be awesome. She's got a lot of comic value and you got a strong lead to carry it. Also it feels like it's set in the 80's, not cause of the music but the look too. The Table Scene was legit one of more impressive things I've seen in a short film in a while. Only two nit picks and I'm sure anyone who's a Cure fan will tell you that Friday I'm In Love was a 90's song and some sound issues especially in the bathroom scene. Besides that it's a excellent effort and it's definitely a short with a ton of potential for a series or feature film.
This brings back memories of my childhood, lol. I was 5 in 87. Times were definitely different back then. To be clear, not all boomers were closed minded neanderthals back then. Back when the AIDS crisis began and pride parades were commonplace on the news, i remember one day when i was in the living room with my mom while she watched a march on TV. I asked her who those people on the TV were. She said they were gay people. After asking what that meant, she simply said they were people who liked the same gender and that they were normal. I took that to heart and wholeheartedly supported the movement till I realized i wasn't straight in my early twenties, lol. Took me even more years to realize I'm NB. You did hit the nail on the head pretty hard with how much harder it was to come out before the late 90s. I had a friend in high school who was clearly bisexual, but never came out. Which was odd because she was really open about being affectionate towards other girls even though she had a boyfriend. She was even kinda flirty with me, lol. Now with the internet being a widespread thing, kids can come out to the whole world, even anonymously if they please. I'm glad the world is slowly improving its views around us. :) This was s very well done short film. The acting was phenomenal.
This is so well written. As a lesbian this is a pretty good way to describe what happens it us if we’re with the wrong people. It’s sad that this still continues to happen today but at least it’s better than It was.
THIS WAS SOOO GOOD IT DESCRIBES SOME LESBIAN EXPERIENCES PERFECTLY. But quick question could anyone explain the first scene where Friday is being yelled at by Debbie is that about them dating or having a relationship or what because it was sort of unclear to me like I heard her say we can’t it’s illegal but I’m still confused
