I have followed David for acouple of years now on facebook. And to watch a video of how he works on a painting from start to finnish is a pleasure to watch. Amazing Artist.
So excited! Been waiting for some videos of your painting process! Looks like they are on panel, what is your priming process? Is the surface really smooth? And how do you get it that way? I prime with a brush or roller but don’t like the underlying strokes, even after sanding I still see them.
@@seasidenomads2762 Most of my work is on a very fine canvas glued to board. It's already primed, but I like to add at least one more coat of Michael Hardings Gesso primer, and then often a layer of tinted primer. The tinted primer is made simple by adding whatever acrylic colour you want to the acrylic primer. I don't mind the underlying strokes at all, as I like to see the hand of the craftsman in the work. It is possible to buy some super smooth boards, like clayboard, but in my experience they're awful to paint on. You can also add many layers of Gesso and then using an electric sander get the surface perfectly smooth, but it takes hours !
