Old video. Hopefully get a response. New to rappeling. Tried it first time today about 10 feet off the ground. Figured why lock the figure 8 when i could just be suspended by the prusik while descending if i wanted to stop. I did this about 5 ft off the ground and by me not knowing anything i couldnt get down . All my weight was on the prusik. I locked in the figure 8 and tried everything i could to get the prusik loose but i couldnt get my weight off of it. After 10 minutes i tied a loop on my tag end and transfered my weight to that by stepping in it and finally got the prusik loose and was able to descend. The last part of the video it seemed you pulled on the prusik with both hands to get is loose. The video ended right when you put your hands on it, but i assume thats what you did. Am i correct? Is that all you do? I do not want to be situation again. I know now to lock it, but things happen
@WesSpurTreeEquipment
@WesSpurTreeEquipment 2 дня назад
Hi there, I believe Dave pulled on the rope with both hands above the prusik to take some of his weight off, then used one hand to free up the knot. If you put all your weight on a prusik on single line, it will likely bind up quickly. Hope that helps!

Why does the title say "Pulley 2"??? I assume the pulley 2 is considered the DMM Eccentric Triple Attachment Pulley?
@WesSpurTreeEquipment
@WesSpurTreeEquipment 20 дней назад
DMM recently revised a bunch of their pulleys, including the Triple Attachment Pulleys and Pintos. The Triple 2 is not the eccentric - that is separate. The new triple attachment pulley has sealed bearings and a different profile above the sheave that feeds rope better.

How do the sewing patterns vary based on type or strand count of the rope? I'm assuming the length of the sewn pattern provides the expected MBS?
@WesSpurTreeEquipment
@WesSpurTreeEquipment Месяц назад
I will have to get with the manager at Iron Street for a more detailed explanation, but in short, yes. There are different patterns used for different ropes, based on diameter and construction. Even two ropes that appear vary similar may take a different pattern, or be harder to sew. There is a lot of variation in kernmantles for instance, due to how the manufacturers treat the innner strands.

The Evo2 boots break in really quick. I wore my last pair around the house one evening, and worked the next day. I had my old boots in the truck in case my feet got sore, but never needed them. Halfway through the day, I realized that I hadn't noticed any discomfort. It probably took 5 hours to break them in. The ArbPro boots are great in the canopy. I highly recommend these.

@kb9826 I guess the backup prusik would grab quick enough if a person panicked for some reason and lost the control \brake end of the rope, right hand in your case, because the natural reaction for most would be to grab the prusik \climbing rope tighter with the left hand, no?

Or do you recommend useing 2 lines accses and work line...i have yale focus, bluemoon, ivy,and petzl flow 11.6 all of wich are great but realy thin im going on 50 and wounded i like thicker ropes subtle ropes ??? Thanks dave

No worries, questions are great@@Sethhaun78 . The main benefit of the SamsonDry coating is going to be the lake of water uptake and reduced weight. I don't think Samson has published anything about it actually making the rope more durable.

I bought one of these for descending trees, but I'm finding I just rappel with the prussic/hitch-climber. Should I be using a figure8 for a smoother rappel perhaps? I've also got a fall arrest device (Petzl ASAP) so it's getting kind of cluttered down there.
@WesSpurTreeEquipment
@WesSpurTreeEquipment 6 месяцев назад
The figure 8 is more of a legacy tool for tree care. Like you've found, it's easy just to come down on your hitch. A figure 8 or a U-rack, J-rack, or other friction device sees action on very long descents, when you would be generating a lot of heat on your hitch from all that friction.
