Nowadays wire line is prohibitively expensive -- if you can get it at all.

Today there's chatter about all the copper wire getting taken down. I don't know how that works in remote locales with no cellular or Internet.

Computer use was not good for business. It is the reason that the demand for white papers has reduced by 3 to 5 % since 2002. Almost 400 paper machines have permenantly shut down over that period.

very impressive. All the weight of broadcast transmitters in that tower....WOW....How did they get the massive electrical power requirements of all those FM-TV transmitters all the way to the top??? A lot of really super engineering before computers did the calculations for distribution of weight and construction that has lasted perfectly for years. The video is sketchy in places but it revealed a lot

As a retired papermaker, 83 to 2006 this is really cool. I worked machines built in the 20s and top of the line tech rebuilds, top formers, and twin wire, still the same process, love old school.

Still, if you had a touch tone phone back then, but your exchange, and/or other exchanges your call was going through, had step-by-step switches, you were able to dial fast but the call still needed to churn through all this mechanical switching to connect.

I am trying to fix a $1.00 Canadian coin mechanism and have one piece that I can't figure out where it goes. It belongs to a Tomy Gacha machine. My husband used to fix them but he passed two years ago. I am in the process of selling all of our equipment. I am 76 years old and probably should have watched him do all the repairs. I would really appreciate it if you could help me. I could send you a pic of the part if you want. Thank you so much.

A minor technical quibble: At 3:15 the narration says that when the motors are in series you get "half power". Actually, you get one quarter of the power of parallel mode. Now let see... He said a train accelerating would consume 10,000 Amps at 600 Volts. That would be 6 megawatts of power or 8,043 horsepower.

Really good video, but I want to correct one small idea. Clay indeed softens somewhat during firing, but it does not slump. It shrinks.
@larmstrong156
@larmstrong156 Год назад
Sorry Evan. I worked 20 years at American Standard in Toronto Ont. We would have to add extra kiln blocking to certain pieces before firing to avoid "slumping"..( sagging or drooping). Especially on one piece toilets and lavas on pedestals. Fired pieces do shrink during their trip through the kiln. About 18 percent , but I could be wrong on that. Cheers!
@evanpenny348
@evanpenny348 Год назад
@@larmstrong156 Thanks for this reply. I do not contradict your experience with firing larger pieces of what I Imagine are slip cast objects, where the softening during firing can lead to potential slumping, if not corrected for. Agree with the 18% figure for shrinkage. Obviously the rather small and uncomplicate shapes I have experience with do not slump, but I acknowledge your experience with larger pieces. Cheers and once again thanks, from NZ to Canada.
