Well, he continued on to play a long career in NHL in Chicago, Calgary etc. with many 50+ points seasons (and he's a Defence man). This was just a terribly unfortunate accident for him...
I am wondering how Rex Murphy feels about this impersonation. Has he ever talked about it? I've seen him twice in America when the CBC was fed through C-SPAN,. Once on the night of 9-11-01. You must be an american. Stevens has always hit hard and clean. Maybe he has never been a great fighter, but he doesn't mind standing in front of guys like Tocchet and Probert. He was a great laeder, and one of the best D-men to ever play the game. Think Ray Borque was a better hitter or fighter... no way, but we don't expect him to be do we.. Stevens deserves his spot in the hall of fame.
6 year old comment and I understand. By today's standards, those types of hits are now gone, plus suspensions. Hockey has changed. Kariya and Lindros are two players I remember who had to retire due to concussions.
I always wondered how the Flames goal got credited to Lanny originally. He didn't even touch it. It was eventually awarded to the guy who dumped it in, Perry Berezan. What game were the official scorers watching?

@HereisNathaniel Don't worry about your spelling,I understand you well.Stevens would always hang on to Lindros' jersey and put his head down,so that Lindros couldn't have the necessary range to swing at him and land punches.And again,it just confirms how frustrated Stevens was by Lindros-Couldn't fight him,couldn't move him out of the crease,was hammered by his hard hits.So what was there left?-blindsided hits in the head,when Lindros couldn't face him.Stevens is a piece of shit for that hit.
@keyrabuns69 Stevens' hits are fucking garbage that the league is taking out.The only coward was Stevens targeting players' heads.He was absolutely incapable of any other kind of hitting.He'd fail and you know it.
@HereisNathaniel Dream on.He was one of the best.Didn't get paid for fighting,his focus wasn't on improving his fighting abilities.Wake up.He was a superstar protecting himself and his teammates.That's how great he was.

@wingnut9090 : i think it's a 'Northland' helmet, they used to make sticks as well, pretty sure I had one in my teens... a stick that is, that helmet only worked on Lanny, Mikita and Foligno.
Believe it or not, but almost every defenceman scores on their own goal at one point or another in their career - or they come very close to doing it. Sadly, it really couldn't happened at a worse moment then this now historic game.
