I think wrestling should be perceived and believed to be "real" when the show starts and the cameras are rolling. Taking it seriously any other time is pretty dumb in my opinion. Kayfabe is dead and has been so for a long time
It's funny how JR complains about kayfabe etiquette while working for a company that doesn't respect any aspect of pro wrestling, be it on or off the air.
He isn't wrong. If you actively watch scripted fights that says a lot about you. It says fake tough guy who wants to look tough from the safety of not getting hurt. Wrestling is losing viewers. All of them including WWE.
He's mad a this picture, but works for AEW where everyone is playing games with each other on Twitch, or Toy Hunting with each other on youtube? Hell their EVPs did a youtube series that had everyone in it.
But do they want open door policy on behind the scenes photos. Like MCU should there be some rules about secrecy or should their be none. And Disney likes to control the narrative and when info is released and how. Some people like surprises ...like Rhea working with Jay now or a surprise guest. Shouldn't WWE have some control over how that information is released...IE they approve of it before being released? Or is this sort of a "you can't control who takes pictures because it's open to the public" situations. Going back to MCU some people prefer surprises so should they just avoid the internet from now on? After it's aired I get but not before it's aired. That picture is harmless at this point BUT if they have an open door no risk policy on staff taking photos behind the scenes... well all I m saying is it is all or nothing. Because if there are none people will take more and more of them.
Yeah I get what you're saying, if there's a rule against taking pictures like this and the person that took it was employed by WWE, then that would be totally fair to punish them, my Issue with Jim Ross's take is that he wants the person punish solely because of "kayfabe being broken" which is just dumb to me.
@@RealMaroBRAND yeah I was playing devil's advocate. Keeping in character 24/7 isn't something you should punish if failed. It relies on the wrestlers so even than they should have situation where it's a free space to not worry about stuff like that. (So again in this situation it would be fault of person who took photo not the fault of wrestlers and only if it breaks NDA rules of staff). It is kind of fun if they remain in character in a lot of situations. I do find that people forget wrestlers do that and complain about how they performed at an interview yet the wrestler was in character. But yeah if a wrestler goes to a wedding or is seen with a friend who is also an on screen rival ...that just is what it is. get over it. But if it's "on set" ... maybe only have photos that are approved to be taken through official channels.
@@RealMaroBRAND question: I heard that WWE stars can't be seen televised at rival promotions(like AEW). Yet we all know things like AEW exist and wrestlers have people close to them that work there...should that rule be removed too? It would definitely mean less to see them there if it was just something that was allowed. Now they either have to go in disguise or it's because they are switching companies.
from what I took away from JR's comments wasn't even that he was mad that a backstage pic in itself got leaked, he's mad that it exposes kayfabe. If WWE has a policy against people taking photos like this and posting them online, then yeah totally punish them, but Jim Ross is giving off the impression that he doesn't care about a policy, he only cares about the sanctity of kayfabe which is ridiculous
@@RealMaroBRAND JR himself has a podcast where he breaks kayfabe. this is about the fact that there has never been a time in history where fans were given access to behind the scenes/closed doors conversations about match sequencing and outcomes. they have always came from leaks. and this is a leak.
right, but this picture itself doesn't actually show any outcomes or anything, it's literally just a bunch of people casually talking, nothing can be actually taken away from this photo as a "spoiler" we all know the wrestlers dont hate eachother, and that's my point, now to make up an example, if this were to be like a leak of a new champion like Solo Sikoa practicing posing in the corner with the belt the day he's gonna be facing Cody for the world title, then yeah, that would be a something worth punishing and getting upset over.
@@RealMaroBRAND you're splitting hairs a little. it's a picture of them planning the match, as well as other wrestlers and crew around them, planning the show. that has never been sanctioned for public access. even when we get behind the scenes looks in specials, it's never of the two wrestlers planning spots etc.
@@HempBraum I'm actually almost certain during on of the WWE 24 Wrestlemania documentaries they explicitly showed Logan Paul planning spots for his match, I'd have to go on peacock and look for it, but I have a recollection of that
You sound passive agressive. "Embrace the New" does not mean "Erase the Old". JR has the right to his opinion as silly as it may or may not sound. You do not have to like it but saying it's time for him to move on is no better than JR saying that whoever is responsible for this should be fired. It reminds me of Cancel Culture. It seems if someone does not like something nowadays, they want it gone. The irony is that the people of today is its own New World Order without even realizing it. We are a world of diversity. It makes no sense to live in a world where tolerance has no place. There are many things I do not like, I don't care for it to be gone, I just focus on what I do like. It seems to me that both JR and you are part of the problem with that kind of mentality.

I disagree. think the fans that don't want it to feel real are a niche AEW fan base, while most fans like myself who watch WWE do want it to feel real. A lot of the fans who would watch wrestling want it to feel real and not a fake theater gymnastics exposition, which is why AEW has hit it's ceiling with popularity. Look at the most popular angles: Cody vs Bloodline/Rock, Drew vs Punk. They blur the lines and try to feel real.
Right I get what you're saying, I'm a WWE guy myself, But it's hard to deny that no matter how hard they try, you still know Cody and the Bloodline/Rock dont actually hate eachother, and like I said, documentaries and everything existing like the WWE 24 series completely wipe that all out, so idk, I can see why ppl want it to exist but for JR to say that person should get fired over a pic revealing something that's already known is kinda ridiculous
I get why JR might be a purist when it comes to keeping it real. But a lot of fans don't tune into the behind the scenes stuff. There's a reason why MJF is one of the biggest draws and undertaker was too, is that they kept it more real, protected the business. Maybe not 100 percent, but 95 percent. I think aew and the indies have this mindset that you just embrace the fakeness, and I think it's short sighted and as I've demonstrated it doesn't draw. Yes, we might not have to be 100 like the old days but the popular angles trend toward the protection of keeping it real not embracing fakeness. I respect your opinion though, and think you state yourself well and clearly, and maybe we even overlap somewhat here
