Too short ,when they throw it at him, the ball has to in such a small window. His catch radius is just small. I hope he can make the most of his targets.
gonna shock you guys steelers 38-13 win hope if they win toss they take ball on offense think TJ gets 3 sacks Nahjee goes over 100 again think Calvin and Pat and wAshington each get 3-4 rec
If it was set they wouldn't be turning over every rock they could trying to find one. They was looking for one AFTER drafting Wilson in the 3rd Rd. With him missing almost all games it's even more of a need. Will they get one worth anything? Who knows. But they are definitely in the market
*I will also add that WR Ben Skowronek is the exact type of player that fits the Arthur Smith Offense. Plus other teams tried to steal him off the practice squad, but the Steelers did not want to lose him. So they signed him to the 53 man roster even tho he was hurt and on IR*
Just some added points 30 years old is not the 30 years old of the 80's. Think of Tyreek, Mike Evans, Davante, Hopkins, Lockett, Diggs, etc. go back in time people like Marvin Harrison, Moss, even Hines Ward. We can't paint with a broad brush. Derrick henry and trent williams are always blasting people. The steelers current WR coach, coached the Jets WRs last year. He probably knew how to attack their DBs. Yay us. Russ may be throwing short now because he has to get used to Pickens 'game speed' . Same thing happen in Seattle when they first brought in DK Metcalf. Russ is 'only' 34 and super athletic. I believe a third of the teams have a 30 plus QB or at least started multiple games. Stafford and Goff are probably 2 of the best in the league. These are the best in the league at their positions over 30 - trent williams, hill, kelce, kittle, mike evans, khalil mack, derrick henry who has been a wrecking ball. I think we should worry more about the fit and salary over thinking that a 22 year old left tackle is better than trent williams. How is the fit and how are the salary implications. Because quite honestly, nowadays many teams don't get to keep their 22 year olds rookie . 😂😂😂
I worry that when they play a secondary that isn't as beat up, playing backups, &/or 3rd stringers at 3 of 4 secondary positions, that the first deep completion down the left sideline, the incomplete pass at the post Pickens nearly caught, & the one Pickens did catch after being deflected by the DB down the right sideline are batted down or easily intercepted by starting caliber DBs. The discourse around QBs has gotten so toxic that my disclaimer is that this isn't a pro or anti either guy type of argument (as I don't think critiques of one have to be an endorsement of the other as many seem to insist) just a legitimate concern. If that's the Ravens instead of the Jets, that's a 1-8 start with an INT - or 2 INTs going into the half - down 22-3 or worse. Luckily Pickens made a few gigantic plays & got the offensive momentum rolling forward. I hope Russ shakes the rust off bc I think Smith is allowed to call a much more aggressive game w/Russ at QB, & hopefully Fields can work on his play fakes & throwing with a little more touch on the deep ball, for whenever he is called on again (So Smith isn't told to put the training wheels back on the offense).
If this is regarding Mike Tomlin's comments on Broderick what a silly thing to complain about. All he said was he disagreed with Mike's praise of a clearly struggling Broderick. Not agreeing with the praise of Broderick is far from expecting him to bash him.
Please don't murder me in the comments, but I need to see this a few more times before i'm a believer. All I saw was Russ throw way more deep jump balls than fields did. Any qb can toss the ball up in 1 on 1 cvg. A lot of those throws could have easily been intercepted or incomplete. Its not like they were perfect dimes. They were short or pickens had to make insane 1 handed catches. I felt like this game was more a display of WR and TE talent than QB talent. I just don't feel like russ did anything different than what fields could do if they let him chuck it deep. I want to be wrong here, I just need to see a few more games before I join the bandwagon like everyone else seems to be doing after 1 game.
Whenever Russell Wilson is in the game with an offense, he's IN CHARGE. He is a leader. In the huddle, in the plays, and after the plays. It was evident even on TV. And I believe that Mike Tomlin wants that in a QB. I also believe that that's the reason that Mason Rudolph wasn't given a chance......he didn't have that 'Hey, I'm the leader' demeanor. Of course, you have to deliver, but you gotta have that quality. Rudolph was too soft-spoken, and easy going.
Look it’s one game so I don’t want to get to excited feel bad for Justin But definitely saw a difference specially with Russ command of the offense and huddle . he made throws Justin probably doesn’t try Russ will open running game up because he does take a lot of shots down field man another outside receiver would be nice
I think he played pretty good for not playing since last Christmas You saw a true veteran playing quarterback unfortunately Justin Fields will just be a backup and that's okay there's nothing wrong with that I hope Russell does good and we signed him to a 2-year deal there's a lot left in that tank
I don't know how anyone with eyeballs within that building could have had an issue with the switch at quarterback. With better quarterback play, and a better opening offensive script, this team would be undefeated. There is no chance Indy or Dallas beats Pittsburgh with Wilson at quarterback.
I'd agree if Russ was throwing to Garrett Wilson, Devante Adams, Alan Lazard, & previously Mike Williams. Russ targets TE's at a 16% rate, which is less than half of league average. The last two weeks I've watched teams play cover 1 with the Free at the top of the numbers over Pickens, because they're so unconcerned about every other WR. In a league average offense, totally valid points. They're going to pay the piper for neglecting that position, & everyone will see it tonight (unless they bench Van Jefferson).
Hopefully things run little smoother with Russ can’t expect anything more guy hasn’t taken live snaps 🤷♂️ I’m more worried about other side of ball ! if Flacco can pick us apart 🤔
Be concerned with the offense. I've never seen an NFL team so devoid of talent from a pass catching perspective, while also having your young OL devastated with injury. They're setting up whatever QB who plays for failure.
