Your hoof prep and glue application is really stellar! I think this mare could benefit from bringing the toe back more, setting the shoe slightly back more and maybe a plug and some DIM. I have a mare with some of the same issues; negative palmar angle and crushed heels. I have been putting Octos on her with a plug and some DIM under the back part of the foot and she is really comfortable and improving. I like the way you work!
Do you not like the weld on tabs? Feel like they would make a better fit because you can shape it to the hoof then weld on the tabs. Can also heat the shoe and manipulate it for a snugger fit.
Thank you for the feedback. I'm okay with the welded tabs, but in this situation, I prefer the sides that are already attached. The hind pattern shoe almost matches perfectly, and the acrylic fills the remaining space nicely. I appreciate your suggestion of heating up the shoe to adjust for a tighter fit. I've played around with this idea a bit, but I might spend more time exploring it further.
These animals depend on us, people like this should not be allowed to even have animals and should be jailed..... This is total unaccepted... These people should not even be able to even own animals ever again...,......
In this case, this is not a result of abuse or animal neglect. Bacteria gets into some pockets of the hoof and can often cause an abscess. Some horses are prone to this and this owner is meticulous with cleaning the hoof as well as the horse’s environment.
If people can't take care of these animals they have no damn business having them there should be consequences and finds and regulations against them... This needs to be followed up on. Otherwise, what other animal are going to be extinct or abused,? Seriously people, doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out??
OK, this is the vid I needed......discovered you today, I just saw another vid of a month ago and left a comment. Makes sense to touch the heels only slightly....good info., thanks. Yes...interesting comment about the mumbling...I noticed in the first vid I was telling you I saw. You have a natural way about you with the things you do that is simply not seen with others. For me it's the communication with the horses that sets you apart...like we do here in the mountains (I'm is Spain, Europe). We randomly say things, incomplete sentences, or make sounds for the animals we are with (horses, cows, dogs, etc.), the energy is different, concentrates more on the "feeling" than the actual words as opposed to talking rubbish to them like the people who humanize them and treat them like bloody babies. BTW, I just took 25 yrs as a figure...so 23 horses on average a day??? Bloody hell, that is a big number.....
As opposed to what somebody said below...ASMR does not necessarily mean "no talking". That feeling of well being can also be set off by a soft low voice, or whispering...so there can be talking, ASMR refers to YOUR response to the stimulus. Here the mumbling of encouragement does feel satisfying. Anyway....ASMR or not, this is one of those bloody good sessions of pro work that anybody can enjoy. I find original and technically well developed ways of working shown here. I have learned here (always learning) that cocking your foot up while resting the horse's hoof on your forefoot actually stresses your back less and lifts his hoof less, only a little higher than when they cock their hinds and relax. I like the idea of filing heels and toes and not just nipping all around in the case of barefoot. A farrier friend of mine told me about this recently (we are in a mountaneous region in central Spain with a great mix of stony, rocky paths and grassy meadowland...) and I find that an "ouchy" mare I have travels much better now on rocks and stones than a couple of days after trimming. It so seems that in general, longer hooves do not really matter, it's the relation between the parts of the hoof that we have to control, so now I trim less and file more, hardly touch the sole with the knife and clean the frog while carving very little out. I would like to know, though, why the filing on the exterior face of the whole hoof? I find it unnecessary, or even potentially weakening for the hoof (here it was only a little), but I'm not the pro. so any info. would be well received. Thank you, very satisfying.
So gentle and so caring about their joints. Unlike most blacksmiths that use a hoof stand that can be difficult for older horses with arthritis. You really ate considerate of the horses comfort. Nice job Tim!
You have to be gentle. I like to make this the best experience t can be for both of us. We are in this together. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement.
unusual. i have often wondered why no other horse hoof care videos show the use of a cordless sander/trimmer (whatever) the way that the videos show being used on cattle hooves. p.s. The video would be much better without the mooning and groaning and talking to himself.
It doesn’t but I understand where you are coming from. Check out this one if looking for no talking 👉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2gvYyV6o4P0.htmlsi=pYY3yW02mSS7gzn5
Over the years I have found that it quite often calms the horse. Certain horse type need a little extra verbal attention to keep them relaxed during the trim. Half the time I don't even know what I'm saying but like I said over the years I have found that a little communication with the horse often leads to better relationship when trimming :)
I love this! I don’t have much experience with horses but I can understand a lot of what other animals are saying with body language and sounds. Please describe what things mean! I’d love to speak horse too!!
A good place to start with speaking horse is projecting the thoughts in your head. Horses are very good at reading the pictures in your head so envision the outcome you'd like to have before the interaction.
Under run heels seem to be a thing? Heels Frog Sole follow the Toe. In my opinion. I like the composite Shoe I wonder if it offers more options. Thanks for Video
With under run heels I generally like to have about an eighth of an inch above the true sole. Toe should be brought back for better break over. Encourage the heels to strengthen by using a thick comfort pad boot like the cloud during exercise for 4 to 6 weeks, then possibly the Versa Grip Glue shoe with plenty of shoe out the back to support the bony column. The easycare line of shoes does offer several options but so far I like the Versa Grip Glue the best.
This alternative has been around for 10+ years. Nobody cares about micro plastics. And if the shoe had any negative impact on the horse, us farriers wouldn’t be using them today.
Yeah just helps cut down the time for both me and the horse. Not for every horse though and not for every scenario. Sometime you just got to go old school with the hand file.
