sayaka died, fulfilling her wish, but at what cost? sayaka can't even see the very person who she wished health for. all things aside, the music captures a sense of despair and loneliness, overall this was one of my favorite music themes in Puella Magi Madoka Magica!
in the scene after Sayaka becomes a witch, when Kyoko first meets her, you hear Sayaka screaming in pure agony, and the way her screams sound are just heartbreaking.
rewatching madoka since the new movie should come out this year so yeah this comments a bit late to the party BUT ik it’s so well known at this point but the symbolism of the mermaids tail is so awesome dude she spent her wish on the guy she liked and in the end she lost her “prince” to another woman. not only that but she gave up her physical body in exchange for that wish much like the little mermaid as well. she realized she could never go back after making a foolish wish and being left with a body that “no one could love” she fell to despair and turned into a witch. it just feels so genius to me as madoka magica always reminded me of grim fairy tales and the art always reminded me of picture books for children. of course there’s so much more symbolism to her witch design but i feel that the little mermaid symbolism always stood out to me and tied it all together so nicely
Even after Madoka made her wish to erase all witches before they're born, Sayaka died then too, so it just shows that there's no actual way to save her.
SPOILER and a bit of fun fact In some of Oktavia’s attacks or moves looks like a black and red human sillouette is taking shape and then melting. Maybe is a reference to Sayaka losing her humanity as she became fully a witch and the only way of salvation is finishing her
It's also similar to Rebellion When Homura finds out she's become a witch and melts into the ground, losing the remains of her hope and giving in the despair of being a witch
it all really gives off as if ur drowning in despair and watch all of it from afar with a sad tune but wanting to get revenge at the same time. I really like it. the ribbon on Octavia’s neck shows a reference of madoka Kaname maybe. It also gives off a knight theme kind of like of how her normal magical girl outfit is. maybe I’m overthinking on this one but on her accessory in her magical girl outfit she has FF as a hair-clip which means super loud in music. could this represent why this music is so loud and filled with despair? also, as we look in her witch collection cards we see Hitomi Shizuki which looks like dolls or maybe even puppets there’s an obvious reason why hitomi is there. It’s not really visible in the anime but Octavia has a mermaid tail, it’s known that it can lure people in with there music almost as it’s a siren. this is something I also found The name Oktavia refers to the word octave (the eight interval of a scale in music). This name reflects Sayaka's attachment to the musician Kyosuke this is all just a speculation
she would still end up as a witch, in the game version theres a route where Sayaka did ends up with Kyosuke but she ends up being a witch because Kyousuke wasnt the prince charming she always thought
@@cheese__cake makes complete sense.......Kyosuke doesn't have the best attitude. He was in an extremely rough situation in which he thought he may be incapable of doing his passion until Sayaka's wish, but he often lash out on others in a hostile manner when he's frustrated.
Forever conducting an orchestra to perform a song of mourning, rage and regret, so violent and unlike the music played by the boy she loved. And I only just noticed that her shadow is not in the shape of her witch form, just a human, likely a man.
I really, really love not just the song, but the visual scene as well cuz it manages to cram so much cool imagery into a working harmonic whole (just like a symphony, hah!) First there is of course the tale of the Little Mermaid as primary inspiration for Sayaka's story, but I think that part's well known, so no point in mentioning that. Then there is the armour and wheels in her witch form's design, very reminiscient of the Chariot in Tarot, which is nice since it really suits her strong will and determined personality - contrasted at the same time by another Tarot image which is the three of swords in her heart-shaped neck frill and the crown of swords above it (albeit that's five of them instead of three). But thirdly and imo most interestingly, I believe her witch form is called Oktavia in reference to Emperor Nero's second wife Claudia Octavia - it's historically very likely that neither of the two really loved the other in their arranged marriage, so that part does not quite fit, but Kyousuke being a violinist who uncaringly carried on fiddling despite Sayaka "burning herself to the ground" so to speak is very reminiscient of the image of Nero that was popularised by the Roman historians after his death (which however thankfully isn't quite accurate in all likelyhood)
especially the careful craft and level of detail to each of the character's lore. If you find any interesting detail please do feel free to keep adding more
@@Lara-vo6rp One more visual thing I noticed is how much Oktavia's shadow against the backdrop of red theatre seats reminds me of a fire, so maybe that's also part of the Nero-connection, but maybe I'm reading too far into it at that point lol Either way it's safe to say this show's objectively a masterpiece
@@Nero_Karel No no keep going I think thats pretty cool! :) maybe it kinda does since it does coerrelate to kyoko since her witch form is a candle with flame since kyoko is usually depicted throughout the show as "drowning" along with sayaka so she wouldn't die alone. More interesting lore is that sayaka's witch form is a mermaid, throughout history they were known to lure in fishermen with their beautiful singing same as sayaka but in this case with a orchestra to lure more victims into her witch lair, proceeding to after luring victims in they drown them similar to kyoko since she's a candle as a witch her name is ophelia, Its a reference to shakespeares play about ophelia drowning in the same fate as sayaka. Another interesting fact is octavia is also a reference to octave or eighth note similar to sayakas witch music motiff and she also turns into a witch specifically at episode 8. And apparently somehow during the scene when she throws wheels at madoka you can slightly see sayakas silhouette in the wheels
the reason Sayaka became a witch is all because of Kyosuke Kamijo. He betrayed Sayaka's feelings and didn't even care about her after he left the hospital Edit: never expected to see this many replies. Thx for the opinion y’all
come on man Kyosuke isn't entirely to blame, her heroic ideologies are what brought her down too, that's the exact reason why she became a witch, because she gave up her humanity just because she wanted Kyosuke to love her, and she thought that was selfish; going against her moral code hence the "I was stupid, so stupid"
@@A.R.C.1997 what i think is that sayaka was fine about her "heroic ideologies", but kyosuke's attitude and way of saying made sayaka be come despicable about herself (?)
@@puiiiiiiiiiiiii I feel like Kyosuke was just being Kyosuke, I mean she didn't tell him about those stuffs about Magical Girls so he was mostly oblivious and just accepted Hitomi's confession cause he didn't think Sayaka liked him but your opinion's cool too but Kyosuke isn't entirely guilty
Kyouko wasn't into rapists or chicks. And she is the guy who plays the violin. How did he really die? The Devil, Satan... The Snake, The Serpent, The Great Dragon, The Beast... Loki, Hel... All the same person. Ra.
Dancing to this for my dance recital. Well that and decretum, which will be before, and sis puella magi, which will be after. I bet Oktavia would be proud. EDIT: it got cancelled due to covid 😅but the rehearsal footage got shown to the audience and i think it was a hit!
Kyoko is often depicted "drowning " or suffocating under a body of water with Sayaka so that she wouldn't have to die alone. Sayaka's witch form is a mermaid, mermaids are usually known to lure people in with their beautiful singing but in this case with sayaka its a orchestra, the main instrument is a violin which makes this even more painful for her. They then proceed to drag their victims under and kill them by drowning and suffocation. Kyokos witch form is a candle lit flame. Candles can't go in water without dying because water and flames don't mix obviously. Also Kyokos witch name is Ophelia, like Ophelia who drowned In one of shakespeares play ending up in a similar fate as sayaka. Also, Octavia is both a reference to Octave, or "Eighth note" following Sayaka's witch musical motiff, and the fact that Sayaka turns into a witch specifically in episode 8. interesting
Also a referece to the 8th book of Hans Christian Andersen, The Little Mermaid, not to mention she has a literal siren as head, which only adds to show her desperation. In the same episode it is also hinted that if Sayaka/Octavia is a mermaid, Kyoko is an unicorn which makes alot of sense.
@@pillowscout stolen? i will admit i did copy and paste this from a "old comments section" on the pmmm wikepedia i thought this would be cool to share with everyone here i never claimed it was originally mine technically thats on you for assuming it was next time lets not make blatant accusations but ask instead thanks.
@@Lara-vo6rp I quite literally provided you the quote and exact same video title. You literally stole the guys exact same comment do you want a screenshot. It's not an accusation I took screenshots lol what's your Twitter @
This song had to have given the listeners a taste of despair and helplessness. I say this because when Sayaka turned Kyouko was with her but couldn't do anything because once a magical girl turns, theres no way of saving them besides death.
It did not make me feel like that at all, even though I knew that was the song's point. It instead made me feel invigorated. That must mean I'm either really happy or don't understand love.
