My Paternal Great Great Grandfather John Bell was born in Clones County Monaghan in 1841, but the family returned to Scotland when he was about 12 and then he emigrated from Paisley Scotland to Philadelphia in 1859.

At school in the 60s/70s we were shown each of these dances once then were easily able to join in with the help of a “caller” and enjoy, with just the occasional misstep and wrong turn and clash, which all added to the fun.

Very nice! Wish you wold have taught your daughter to do the polka though. Everything is perfect up til the polka-part, and that's the tricky bit you realy need instructions for these days. (I teach children and adults historic- and folk dancing in Sweden)

So much of this history makes me crazy. The Ulster reivers/ borderers suffered the same treatment as the Irish. They were exactly alike save for language and religion and that last only for the past generation or so. They should have linked up, made common cause and avoided 300 yrs of strife between them. There was enough land for all and together they could've delivered the government in London years of payment in kind. They were both clannish, temperamental and martial ppl. Even their music and whiskey culture was alike. London starts a bar brawl between Jock And Fergal stands back and laughs.

What do you gain from being rude about a child who’s just doing a nice thing with her mum? I hope you’re not mean to your own family like this. I would be upset if my ma said something like that to me.

@@thacic8480I wanted people to know that it is very, very much easier and much much more fun than this girl is making it look. We are not all equally good at everything, a thought that I’m sure she’s able to bear by that age. Somebody has to be worst and most of us have had the experience of being that person at something other, some game, some dance, some sport, some subject, some art. What do you do? Laugh at yourself! Realize that and try harder.

Hi I don't know if my post will be noticed I'm an 88-year-old Gentleman & who has danced this dance since I was a teenager I'm surprised no one has noticed that this young lady is being taught to lead off with the wrong foot the gentleman leads with the left foot not the right check out more videos' this is not meant to be over critical as I have taught dancing of all kinds & it is important to be taught correctly best wishes good dancing.
