Not surprising how every student’s answer was to either immediately offload all accountability or to immediately take on all accountability rather than lead a change in corporate culture and fix the issue from a first principles perspective
Seems like this is the issue with modern MBA programs. So much of the attention is focus on how to run the non-business aspects of large multinationals rather than creating new companies and focusing on the tactics and leadership around launching, sustainable growth, technical skills, etc. These kinds of prompts are much better for you when you’re 20 years out of business school at the top of whatever corporate hierarchy rather than for the 20 years it takes to get there.
JWMI is an excellent MBA program with practical and relevant principles. Each course was engaging and highly informative, and the professors were knowledgeable and easily accessible. JWMI MBA is well worth the investment.
Loved this session, great chat. I’m kind on similar path - from a software engineer to big tech product manager, targeting similar schools, so this was really helpful. Difference is at matriculation I’ll have 8.5 years of experience, I’m applying this year round 2, I’m an international applicant - female software engineer from India! Love this dynamic of Sandy being this tough critique all the times and John being his polite, sweet, calm self 😄
Great video and listen Matt. Thanks for facilitating. An EMBA is becoming a hot designation especially as Executive Recruiters are becoming more aware of the value an EMBA brings a corporate client.
Seems like he has to be. Her BG is too niche and away from even corporate life to be an easy sell for schools. Add to that her role is too operational and individual contributor heavy so she hasn't picked up how to sell herself to management circles as someone who's all about impact at scale with teams in mind
