great video! I was wondering if you had any evidence based articles/journals in relevance to this? I am currently struggling to find some for a university assignment!
I've also done some modeling of extremes and pitch glides to encourage imitation and show contrast, which has helped with decreasing pitch and loudness.
Thanks for sharing! I've been working with young kids in EI and noticed that they sometimes get into a habit of using a high pitch, strain, and or increased loudness. One client spoke in a high strained pitch often, but when adults spoke to her in a high pitch, she responded with a more typical voice.
Thank you so much for this informative video. My 7 year old has finally been confirmed as having a tie. We are in the process of mayofunctional therapy intake prior to a release. You’ve eased some of my concerns and helped prepare for what to expect. ❤
My 2month old grandson was diagnosed with torticollias. He is not getting pt or tummy time with his 20 yr old single mother. When he visited last week I noticed he had really bad neck control. His neck flops forward & backwards when sitting up to burp him. Mother says doc says he will out grow it . He also has acid reflux & spits up so much of his milk. I’m so concerned he meds to be worked with more.
My daughter is 1 year and 2 months old but her brain is 8 months old .. she can't stand due to loose muscles.. she starts crawling at the age of 10 months.. but still she can't stand ...i m so upset 😢 what should i do?
This is so great! I was wondering if you have recommendations on how to figure out what system needs help? vestibular or proprioception for example. Dealing with a concussed adhd teen and energy is not our problem. It’s lack of. Any ideas?? This is so great. Loving this science.
What the heck is positive body language? What does that mean to have positive body language or not-positive body language? I find communicating with “normal people” to be the most ineffective form of communication that is just a ridiculous waste of time because they don’t say what they mean and they don’t mean what they say. How can anyone make sense out of what they say? Ugh! I’m so tired and exhausted every time I HAVE to talk to neuro’s. I go completely off line afterwards. 😵💫
I will not respect you 2 women until you swallow your pride and do a side by side comparison of autistic and neurotypical person speaking side by side. What good is this to me when 2 neurotypicals are taking up the screen? Let me guess you 2 don't like autistic people. Disliked and not subbed.
I take care of a baby 10 months old and he doesn’t like standing when I tried the first few times he kept the same sitting position instead of standing and after I tried in the swimming pool he stood for a bit
How to help a child to eat puree who has some issues like HIE or microcephaly because there are no helpful videos about this at youtube. And a blind child too
My baby has had all signs of readiness for many months and yet isn’t walking at 14 months. He doesn’t like standing. He’s been able to do it for months but prefers not to. He’s been knee walking for months.
hey, I cant get my baby to straighten his arms with these techniques, he only uses his back muscles to keep his head and chest up, which must be so uncomfortable. He has been doing superman since 4 months, he is 8 months now 😢
@emergepediatrictherapy thanks for the info. What activities would you recommend for a 2 year old toddler who throws play/all items in hand (spreads around the floor) ?
This is super helpful, thank you. If a child has retained primitive reflexes, which in my understanding can contribute to oral issues / picky eating, would you suggest therapy to integrate reflexes before embarking myofunctional therapy?
My daughter was born 5 weeks prematurely and is now 17 months adjusted age but she isn't walking yet. She pulls up to stand, cruises by holding onto vertical surfaces and few days ago she tried standing up with no support several times with the longest period being 20 seconds. She hasn't done it again. I am worrried as her left leg turns outwards a little bit as she walks, she has an appt tomorrow and will bring it up to her doctor.
Hi, my baby has started to feed more on left breast, and also prefers looking on left side. Although he can rotate his head easily but he prefers left side. Is this feeding preference part of Torricolis? What can I do to Fix it. Thanks
As an autistic person forcing eye contract mean I'm not listening you at all as my efforts go to forcing myself to make eye contract. It's not that I can or that it painful it's just something that doesn't' happen naturally nor feel natural. So think of it like. When you talk to someone you have to cock your head at 45% degree angle and keep it that way the conversation. That's how it feels to be told to make eye contact. Not perfect of course, just brief example.
I'd like to know too. My baby crawls on the bed perfectly. Faster and faster on 4s, but only on the bed. When he's on the floor, he does this. He stands up fine. He has his 15 month appt next month but this is fairly recent.
Wow, this video is amazing! I’m an autistic adult and watching this really made my day. Wish SLP’s were like you when I was a kid. Thanks for making the world a better place for us
My daughter just turned 15 months and is showing all the signs of standing readiness you mentioned but will not stand for more than 5-10 seconds at a time independently and is very shaky. We have an appt with her pediatrician today but just wanted your two cents, do you think she would benefit from PT?
I was fortunate to study with Bill when he had a Bal-A-Vis-X conference/workshop in South Carolina in January 2020. I traveled over seven hours to attend. Amazing! Worth every dime. Then, COVID changed the world. It truly is a great tool for OT. (Music Educator here.)
i feel like the way you did the exercises wasn’t for the way you demonstrated where the torticollis was in the beginning of the video so now i’m confused
My baby is 3 months and a week old but he does not want to lay down anymore, whenever I lay him down he lifts his head and the upper part of the back trying to sit up and he gets angry that he can’t. What should I do?
If you're seeing 2/3 signs of readiness at 15 months, is it time to panic? We got a referral to a PT from our pediatrician, but he's cruising like crazy and pulling to stand, just no independent standing yet.
