I help adult guitar players reignite their passion for music, even if your concerned it's too late to start or share this journey with their loved ones.
Me: *moves the ring and pinky* Brain: *refuses to collaborate* It's so hard to do simultaneously with ring and pinky fingers, this gotta help with coordination.
Thank you for this, I started only about a month ago learning guitar and a lot of the time even with cords I practice a lot my fingers still sometimes go off in their own directions I look forward to this helping me get more control.
I was shocked when I first saw this video. I tried it for the first time 10 minutes ago (I’m very new at guitar), and my fingers and hand hurt so much. It feels like I can’t, my fingers don’t sit properly and especially my pinky feels like its so off and it keeps touching the bottom string where my pinkie is placed. It’s probably because I’m new, and I hope I improve eventually because I get really frustrated at my fingers when im practicing. Regardless thanks for this vid.
Wow, this is a brutally honest wake up call for my abilities. Its super frustrating, but I seriously need work on my weak and puny finger strength. Thank you!
Bro I am having problem for remembering the song.I am an intermediate guitar player and till now I have learnt almost 200 songs by my own ear . When somebody like my friends, siblings, guests etc ask me to play any song i get stuck over there.I need to take a small pause between the song to find the lead notes again. So how I can revise my huge list of songs so that I can play any song smoothly in a right tempo.
It's about knowing the song well enough that you can't forget it. Listening to the song more - not even playing it, so that you absolutely can bring it to mind in your 'mind's ear' instantly. You need to know every song as well as you know songs you listened to in high school.
One variation is to poise the fingers above the third string until they are needed. It's difficult to do and maintain but seems to teach a core mechanic of string manipulation.
I like this. I try to find relations of fingers that give musical promise for my sensibilities. Seems to keep me more focused, and also accomplished the goals.
I'm so glad I found this! I've been playing with the spider exercise lately and noticed my ring finger doesn't quite move the way the other 3 do - I tried this exercise for the first time today, couldn't do two fingers with index and ring, I'll do it again tomorrow with just one finger and go from there. Thanks!
I instantly felt i had more control the first time i tried this, thank you very much I've been into bodybuilding for 3 years so it clicked for me when you said extra strength/flexibility aren't enough, because my hands are used to just grabbing things really hard but with no finger independence So thanks again it really helped and this is just the first time i tried it
On my first week of learning at 54 years old. Let see if old dogs can indeed learn new tricks. I'll do this everyday until I can do it automatically. Thank you!!
Yeah buddy. For me, Play painfully slow. Build up that muscle memory. Also, how you pick. Where is the pick positioned to strike? Do it with hammer ons and pull offs. Then alternate picking. Learn to feel the notes. Good luck with your school. People also have to understand. First get an ear for being in tune. Barre chords are the killer. Many will stop there. Working through frustration. Loving what you play because you will chase sounding like someone else until you sound like you.👍🏾
@@guitargympro quick question though. I noticed that when you flip flop your fingers both fingers land simultaneously. I can do that with the 1st and 2nd finger, but when I try to land each finger simultaneously with the 2nd and 3rd finger, I can’t do it. I can only move them one at a time. Do you think that if I keep practicing moving them one at a time eventually I will get to the point where I can land them simultaneously? In other words, do you still think the exercise is beneficial if I can only move certain fingers one at a time?
@@keychange6231 Yes! absolutely! Start with 1 finger at a time. The next step is to lift them up together but place them down one at a time. And eventually you'll be able to move them together :)

Is there a metronome app or device that you recommend? You are assuming that the viewers have worked with metronome ‘markings, - I’m insure of how these are used…. Thanks..
I really do like your guitar lessons on here. I'm not sure about joining a community because I am very shy and scared about that sort of thing. The fact I am even thinking about it would be a HUGE compliment to you if you knew me and what that means for someone who hasn't even stepped outside their home for anything other than a medical appointment in more than ten years. You'll just have to take my word for it and accept that it's a compliment. Thank you so much for all your time and effort spent on complete strangers. You're a star.
I've not picked up my guitar in decades. Everything is so atrophied. My brain knows what to do from playing when I was younger, but the fingers won't obey. I found this video, and have been working on it daily, and it works VERY well. Thank you so much!
