Martinucci was very well known and respected in Italy, holding important positions. Toscanini promoted his work. I can listen repeatedly to this wonderful work.
Does anyone else hear strong resemblance/sampling of "Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott" ("A mighty fortress is our God") “by Martin Luther? That 1539 Lutheran hymn was also used as the basis for Felix Mendelssohn’s 4th Movement of his 5th Symphony “Reformation” which is utterly incredible if you’ve never heard it. But listen to both the hymn and end of that Symphony and you’ll hear the extreme similarly to this gorgeous Easter Festival Overture
If this doesn't prove Rachmaninoff was a genius of the caliber of Liszt and Mendelssohn I don't know what will. Musicians are quick to dismiss Rach as a great pianist who dabbled in composing and nothing could be further from the truth. talk about atmospheric. You can see vampires gliding down gloomy hallways in deserted ruins of long-abandoned castles in the opening and closing of this masterpiece. And Rach never got a chance to hear it. He composed it and put in away. What a guy.
Long ago, when I was 12 or 13 years old, I went fishing by boat in the Gulf of Izmir with a few of my father's friends. Despite my age, I caught so many fish that everyone on the boat was surprised and one of them was almost jealous. Once upon a time, I tangled the fishing line and caused trouble on the boat. I'm glad that jealous man didn't throw me into the sea and drown me! Such things can happen with the naivety of youth. For some reason that came to mind. . . . . . . Greetings from Turkey to Europe. Good luck to all of you. >> (ENG) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Türkiye'den Avrupa ya selamlar. Hepinize iyi şanslar.
