I looked up the CS12, that’s purpose designed for Logic isn’t it? The experience for Logic looks great in theory, though I can’t speak for it as I haven’t tried it. Brand loyalty is hard to make and easy to break though, if you didn’t like another product of there’s it’s no surprise you’re sceptical. Regarding the E1 it’d need a custom script to do anything in depth, I’d have a hunt around the forum or join and see what people have tried 👍

I agree. There is a point where absolute sharpness is not artistic and becomes a bit distracting. It's like watching the news in 4k. Yeah, it looks good, but I don't need to see the makeup lines in a 50+ year old newscaster. I just don't need that much detail and my photos don't either. I want them sharp in terms of focus, but not razor sharp because I have the absolutely sharpest lens available. I want good colors, rich contrast, and as much microcontrast as I can afford to achieve on my budget. Sharpness...meh. Especially for portraits. Focused sharply on whatever lens I'm using is fine. I guess that's why I am so fond of the older Nikon D lenses. They're good enough and render nicely. Yes, there's far better, but the cost for it is not worth the output improvements for me.

OK next idea: I stand in a field of Lions with a long-range shotgun on a hand-controlled winch system attached to my back. The winch is loose and wobbly and also there is a lamb shank next to the mic. In the left speaker is a Billy Eilish track (slowed + reverb) and in the right speaker is Cotton Eye Joe at 2x speed. Its for kf , k1 and k3 cameras. AA Filter Simulator For Reducing False Colors and Moiré Thanks To Shake Reduction Mechanism Thanks to the built-in SR system, by using the microscopic vibration of the image sensor unit during image exposure, generates the same level of moiré-reduction effect as optical AA (anti-aliasing) filter. Unlike fixed optical AA filters which always creates the identical result, this innovative simulator allows the user to adjust the level of the moiré-reduction effect from OFF, Type1 and Type2. Bracketing of all those settings is also possible. Depending on your subject, you can chose high resolution shooting or AA filtered shooting

Very worthy of investigating. Already have WIDI connectors. What Conductive labs MRCC model do you recommend? Because the 880 4x4 is more ideal for my budget. Seems that' a MRCC is key to pair this with to duplicate your setup. Secondly, is the text on the Electra tiny? Like Korg Volca Tiny... I have some vision issues. Thanks for this awesome rundown.
2 месяца назад
The smaller MRCC is pretty similar the larger, it lacks the USB MIDI and has fewer sockets so depends on your needs. It also doesn’t have the display and functions therein. You could plug an E1 into the PC socket if you liked. I would definitely look through the manuals and compare that directly with your intended use. Text wise it isn’t big, I’d say a few mm? I can measure when I’m next with it 👍

Got mine a few days ago, and I'm really struggling with it. The biggest downer is that all my vintage midi gear, connected by MIDI to my PC using a MIDIface 16x16, RME UFX II and Expert sleepers ESX-8MD cannot be two-way accessed through those interfaces. I have to use the two MIDI ports on the Electra one itself, which massively limits what can be controlled without major faffing and a lot of new MIDI mergers, through boxes and double cabling. Even those that I connected to the two ports, I cannot get the E1 to 'see' them. It says nothing connected. The online manual is confusing, and seems to be missing the info I need. I'll try asking on the forum, but so far I'm not having a good experience with the device.
2 месяца назад
The first paragraph sounds like an issue with MIIDI getting through the Three different devices... is data being filtered out somewhere? When it comes to the E1 not "seeing" devices, do you mean not working with patch dump?
@r0tekz
@r0tekz 2 месяца назад
To route E1 through to MIDI devices on the interfaces mentioned, in Bitwig, I just select the device track. But that is one way from E1 to MiDI device. There is no return MIDI connection from interface back through to the E1, so no easy way to sync patch info. Two-way connections can only be easily done with the two midi ports on the E1. Not much good for my set-up. With the MIDI ports 'not seeing' on the E1, I was wrong, and was looking at the host USB connections screen, which is not relevant to the MIDI port. I do have an issue that a preset edited to use MIDI port 2, still uses the default MIDI port 1. I have asked a question about that on the forum, but no reply a day later, to what must be a basic issue. Right now, with not many presets available, the two MIDI port limitation is not a huge deal. There is the possibility, for a few pieces of choice gear, to use midi splitters and mergers. This is the least hassle option, probably. There are also the programmable MioXL, but that is much more $$$ when I have already spent $$$$$$. I wonder if they are multi-client on Windows anyway? AFAIK, only RME interfaces will share a midi port between a DAW and editor software. Macs don't have this sharing issue, although there is a rumoured future Windows update that adds this. I'm also a bit let down that the E1 will not send receive whole patch banks like a librarian. It's not like they take up a lot of memory. I'll get there, but it is going to be a faff.
2 месяца назад
 @r0tekz That error with something set to MIDI port 2 but going out through port 1 sounds like the port could be set in the Lua code window and thus overriding that setting. If a preset is using the Lua code it'd need to be told to use the setting button with the line, *portNum = device:getPort()* so it's worth looking for a *portNum = 1* line in the Lua and swapping it out if so, as I found this issue once already. If there is such a line, try editing it and then sending to E1 and trying again. So are you trying to send the MIDI through Bitwig and then out to the devices? I'd guess that's quite complex. For my part I'm intentionally avoiding the DAW and just letting the E1 talk straight back and forth to devices. So the MRCC can receive MIDI from the DAW and from the E1 and route it all where it needs to go. II could probably do a smaller video just on how it's set up if that's help people.
@r0tekz
@r0tekz 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the info on the Lua setting. I'll check it out. I notice that quite a few enquiries on the forum go unanswered. Yeah, my MIDI set-up is pretty complex already, with multiple interfaces and a lot of synths/modules, nearly all vintage. The only immediate way to access them all is routing though the PC & DAW, but that would not be two-way. For now, I am going to use the E1 MIDI ports and splitter/merger boxes to connect just the following: Microwave 1, K4r, D-550, ESQ-1 & DSS-1. The two RME UFX II MIDI out ports going through the two E1 MIDI ports to two sets of splitter/mergers. Hopefully it will not add too much latency or jitter to the MIDI. This way, I can still use other editor/librarians like Patchbase for the ESQ-1 and Edisyn for the k4r.
2 месяца назад
@@r0tekz I think you have more stuff than me, so it's likely it's more complex overall In case it helps: I have the rear-panel RME UFX MIDI I/O 1 going in and out of the MRCC, and the E1 uses one of the USB on the MRCC as both an in out, so that's standard WIDI dongle on the E1 to WIDI USB host on the MRCC. This means the E1 doesn't USUALLY go via USB or through the PC at all which I found quite attractive, as I don't add any PC latency, BUT if I want, MIDI can be routed into the RME interface easily via the MRCC and thus reach the PC. That way I can record my movements, then pump those out of the RME to the device from DAW if I like. The exception here is the Ableton control, which seems to only want to use USB from E1 to PC, so that's jacked in, but uses a specific script. I had an issues with this where the script ONLY want to use MIDI 1 on the E1 and changing that would mean a lot of re-writes that are beyond me, so I've moved all my patches and WIDI dongles over MIDI 2 on the E1 I'll need to buy another merge to get all the patch dumps back to the E1 without using up all the MIDI inputs to be honest, but I've yet to do that. In short, yeah it's hard to get going and I had plenty of WTF moments too, but once it's all ready it's inimitably cool for vintage gear users. I'm more than happy to keep chatting about it, it seems odd that forum is a bit quiet as often it's pretty active, you could maybe try a different section of it?

dumb question: does a black mist / black diffusion filter help with this problem? 90% of my photography work is clothes for catalog and the Moire issue is really frustrating
2 месяца назад
I'd definitely consider a 2nd hand S1H for that job as it doesn't have the same issues, and to be honest the sensor is a little better as it wasn't compromised by phase-detect AF. I think you gain about a stop of DR back which is not to be sniffed at. That's a common question it isn't dumb, especially as it seems to make logical sense: you blur the image, and the moiré can disappear right? The reason it doesn't work is that the moiré pattern is the result of a direct relationship between the spatial sampling frequency of the photodiodes (the grid of sensor pixels) and the resolution of the lines on the in-focus clothing. An OLPF is (simply put) a bit of glass directly above the sensor pixels that diffuses light across the rows and columns, blurring the harsh grid. It's reasonably parallel to FXAA anti-aliasing in games. BPM just diffuses the image a little, mainly in the darker areas, but the blur isn't to remove moiré. In simple terms, the amount blur required to remove moiré issue before light hits the sensor would be considered "out of focus". The same thing scuppers the theory "use old lenses and it won't happen". Perhaps true if the lens is broken, but I managed to see a moiré pattern in an old film projector lens from the 1890s, because the lens had focused the light correctly on the sensor, and in that area the lens resolved enough lines of resolution for the cloth, which had a very high-frequency material to be an issue. IRL SOURCE: in this video I used a BPM on the lens, and the simple black t-shirt I'm wearing had a purple line around the in-focus area. I had to secondary to get rid of the saturation, the pattern is still there but likely isn't visibly on RU-vid luckily. If you're interested in further information, investigate "Nyquist and moiré". Exactly the same ugliness as we get with moiré in images occurs audibly with sound if we cut off the sample rate sharply without a smoothing filter of some description. Sound is obviously different, but again oversampling cam be used (analogous to shooting in 8K for 4K deliver for example) and so on, so it's fascinating how the same principles apply across the board and the concepts are sort of usable everywhere.

3 месяца назад
There’s a device called the MP MIDI that sounds similar to your description, if I’m getting it right. It does have a bit more of a reliance on specific software on the DAW side, as plugins have to run in their wrapper, and then you can control them effectively on the device’s screen. It may be worth you having a look at that. I chose the Electra One 2 because it was very “standalone” and I’m always a bit nervous of things like having to run everything through a wrapper that may or may not continue to be updated in the future, while the Electra One will always work as it does now for most things. The exception being things like DAW control, which is heavily reliant on those patches being kept up to date and the DAWs not breaking it, which is easily done, needing everything to be updated. I don’t think there’s ever going to be a perfect universal, unbreakable solution TBH.
@Curious_Skeptic
@Curious_Skeptic 3 месяца назад
Yes, think that is it. The reality though is everyone is thinking complex! Simple cc knobs. Led oled has nothing to do with knobs! What is needed would be easily assigned text under each knob. That's it. No updates needed. A custom template per plugin or synth.

@@Curious_Skeptic I wonder what the cost of lots of little OLEDs is vs one big LCD screen? I'd guess it's about the same, so would be a different way of doing it, you could have something in the format of Electra one, with 36 knobs, each with a small screen below? That sounds quite cool!
