Great question Martin these are actually original Lucas Fog Rangers. We got the idea from Fred’s car that has the same. Took me about six months to find two sets and I ended up putting together one decent set. Found a couple in the states and found two in England… Don’t be shy from buying parts from England because the shipping is not as bad as one may think. I hope this helps.

lovely car and nice to see it original in appearance...i always liked that front airfoil trim below the bumper but i see you have gone for no bumper which is unusual....i have square cibie spots which compliment the indicator shape and work well....i am not sure about those round ones you have and for me they should be slightly smaller than the headlights as to me they look like they are competing with the heads. These are only my own personal tasts so who cares.......all in all i love your car and you are ahead of my restoration...i am at the outer panel stage. well done....enjoy

I have a luggage rack for my TR6, it was on the car for several years. when I installed it, I was using a cheap drill bit, which broke and I made an "oops" on the trunk lid. I used the rack for several long distance trips, which was a big help. the only drawback was, the weight of the suitcase was enough to make the trunk lid push down on the trunk lid seal and the bottom surface of the lid was touching the rear valance, causing the paint to be damaged and subsequent surface rust. When I get to installing it again, I will look into adding rubber stops. Your '73 is looking great, I can't wait to see the interior installed.

Yes, she is looking great! I suppose the guy who did a repair a few years ago on the front did not worry about how the grill trim looked. That trim piece should just be placed there, the grill holds it to the valance. You may find you have the same issue with the grill too, but I guess you can tighten it so you will not notice the gap. My front valance has one tab for the trim welded crooked form the factory, it cannot be seen but it puts one end of that trim too far forward. I will do some touch up before I paint it. Happy New Year, I am looking forward to seeing the end result.

Thank you, Jim for your comments. Yes many years ago the car was in some type of a collision… If you look through the videos, you will notice in the engine compartment on the right fender inside the engine compartment, where there was some bodywork done… I think we figured out a fix for the finisher. My buddy Dave cut it in half trimmed it and then we welded itand repainted it… I will have this on our next video what we did.
@jimconklin8040
@jimconklin8040 9 месяцев назад
I hope that trim comes out good, I believe it was powder coated or dipped as I have several that have the coating separated from the steel. I hope the coating does not bubble or burn. They are not so expensive, $39 new. @@bobbytr6pack762

I watched this several months ago, I see you did you best to save the upper inner valance. The are very expensive compared to the lower and outer valance. I found a '76 TR6 in the junkyard last year with almost no rust in the rear valance section. I cut out the entire thing, it will be on my TR6 by next summer. Looking at the welds needed, I believe the lower valance was welded first, at the Triumph factory, because there is no way to spot weld it if it is assembled to the outer section I have no desire to remove my lower section since it is difficult to get the 4 spot welds removed where the bumper mounts. It took long enough to separate the rear valance from the side parts after I got it home, especially the triple layer part, just below the tail light. Your help may have been a bit aggressive with the cutoff tool on the first cuts at the trunk lid corners. I was going to make an observation on the car after the painting, but thought you mounted the rear license in the pre drilled holes, now that I see the rear valance was new, I think you should have mounted the plate more centered as it is very low and you may have just located it as it was. I am not sure why a dealer would mount it so low, unless he used the British measurement from the top, which would be correct for the long thin license plate they use. I am going to follow your vehicle to the finish

@@bobbytr6pack762 I finally got the chance to do my own rear valance. I bought it 2.5 years ago but it was way "too" to do that job Too Hot, too cold, too busy, too far away. of course, this job will stall for another month as I am scheduled for hernia surgery tomorrow morning. Since I got my valance as an assembly, it was pretty tough to get it to line up, but it is looking great! I have no time to weld it as I still need to paint exposed surfaces and do some pre-welding preparation. I also want to just tack it on and see how the rear fenders fit. I have a '71 TR6, but am changing the rear valance to one from a '76. You stopped posting videos, what happened?
@jimconklin8040
@jimconklin8040 9 месяцев назад
I am wondering if it would be easier if you used long set screws for the center section, if it would help. I use them for mounting heavy covers on machines. I put them in threaded holes, hang the heavy item, then fasten it with nuts.

The TR is looking great! It will probably be years before mine gets looking like that. I am glad to see you painted the area behind the grill, it completes the look. It came out looking good, I remember the rear fender was assembled with seam sealer along the entire face of the rear deck, and along the trunk edge, the excess removed promptly after assembly. the area is notorious for rust, as it is 3 parts welded and bolted together. No amount of undercoat will keep that from rusting because water is forced into the cracks from the tires, same with the area under the rear bumper at the connection of the fender to the rear valance.
