"Back of the class, throwing pencils at professors It made the Barbarellas giggle That's when life's pleasures were simple Now it takes a dancing bear jumping through flaming hoops To even make em buy the god-forsaken single" -Nickle Plated Pockets, Aesop Rock
This is a once in a generation album... Just beautiful. Thank you, English Teacher. And thanks for the review, Professor. Just for the record Pendle Hill is not in Leeds it is in the north but further west in Lancashire. Lilly is from Colne in Lancashire but moved to Leeds for uni... Good worked, just found you because I've been devouring English Teacher stuff, subscribed.
Went to the concert with my daughter in Toronto. She's gen z I'm a boomer. It seemed to me that every generational group was there. Never been to a concert where no one sat in their seats for the entirety of the show.
Nobody was criticizing him when he was reviewing and literally trying to calculate at what age Drake started using the N word in his 6:16 breakdown. It's only when started reviewing Drake's song that people started caring. I call this hypocrisy.
What if it's a kendrick song about a subject that everyone can relate to as a human, like love or lust?? Like, at some point this whole your not allowed to be a part of this WHITE BOI becomes silly
love how you called out the "meet the grahams pronunciation" of die in the chorus, which really makes me think that this realization about the industry is a tough pill to swallow for him
To be honest, I don't know how Travis Scott has lasted this long. Days Before Rodeo was super innovative, and he's had moments here and there on albums (in my opinion) up until Astroworld, which I think is a really great project. Since then though, I don't get it. So boring, so unneeded. In 2024 he ruins anything he's featured on. He's Jjst so pedestrian, he does not add anything. Type Shit w Future and Carti is a good example.
AVAA. Fun album by the guys. Definitely appreciated it more when I heard some of the songs live. If you haven't already, you really need to check out some older Gizz.... I'm in your Mind Fuzz, Nonagon Infinity and Flying Microtonal Banana are where I got started with them and are fantastic! Or fishing for fishies....or paper mache dream balloon....or Polygonwanaland....or gumboot soup😅
professor sky. How can I white artist be in hip-hop? And… Idk… Can you make a video on how white rappers are to BE? I don’t quite understand the “tourist” in that sense…
It’s not racist to point out that rap has degenerated with the rise of its commercial success and you don’t have to be black to say that and not be racist. It’s actually pretty common for most art forms to degenerate with their introduction to mainstream success. It is disingenuous to say that Rap is immune to the natural development of art under capitalism. FD signifier has a video about it and other creators have also made ones detailing how rap has developed/degenerated over the years. MF DOOMs whole persona and style was a push against the celebrity culture that was becoming more and more rampant in the industry. He deserves his flowers and the respect that he’s earned by those who truly appreciate rap music.
Hey I loved listening to your video! Just a quick shout on the open ended question of what does the title of “time: the donut of the heart” actually mean, my take on it (and I strongly believe this) is that he is referring to the electromagnetic field of the human heart. I am no expert on the science of this but a quick google search gives you a quick look at what this means. This electromagnetic field that the heart produces is always shown through graphs and visualizations as a torus, or in other words, a donut. Love transcends time, if you watched the movie interstellar you understand that idea and how it relates to “quantum physics” or whatever and there that’s my take on the title of “time: the donut of the heart”
Hey my comment is unrelated to this post but I had to let you know that I watched your interview on the company man channel (4 months late). Because of your comment about Kool Moe Dee / LL beef, I immediately ran to your page and subscribed. I’ve been running around telling anyone who would listen that the LL/Moe Dee beef doesn’t get enough credit as an all time great rap battle. So when you said Let’s go was a fav, I said I’ve gotta check this guy out. I’ve had Jack the Ripper on repeat lately by the way. Anyway, nice work on that interview and you have a new viewer.
Prof, what you're doing is dope. But please, don't conflate what Lecrae is doing here with what's going on politically. Lecrae isn't running with them folks. He's also a committed Christian. By definition we confess Christ as the only way to God and salvation. He's not making a political statement, but a theological one. As an Orthodox Christian, I'd also argue that Christianity isn't "just" the slave master's religion. Christianity is bigger and older than the West and cattle slavery, even though Western Christianity is the most visble and vocal. There's something ironic about that, I think. Again, I think your analysis is super dope. I'll be watching more of your videos. God bless, brother.
